One of my students is looking to buy a used 430w/530w waas data card if any of you that have upgraded to the 6/7 series garmins have any for sale. PM me if you have one and what you want for it. He is looking to spend 70-100 for one used vs 190 new from Jepp or take a chance with someone on ebay..

Me thinks you student is a bit light on his spending expectations, Mike. He/she is thus an official member of the CB club :) .

I think they go for about $150 used, and about $225 new.

190 new from Jepp is what they told him, and he spotted one a few weeks ago on Ebay for about $70 he tells me. Anyway, if he doesn't find one used here, I am sure he will go the new route vs. 150 for a used one. So would I. But yes, he is a CB like the rest of us proud mooney owners.

He should make certain he's looking at the price for a WAAS card, not the older ones, which are all over. What a Jepp rip off

Just checked....he's right, $195 new + tax + shipping.

I wonder if anyone has reverse engineered the data card and made an "adapter" to use some common form of memory chip?

I'm not sure what the legality would be since this is memory used on a "certified unit", but I suspect the perpetrator would have no trouble selling his adapter.

Obviously, _I_ would never buy one, but what if the hangar fairies brought one into my hangar?

If the hanger fairies come by, you might give them Greg's (my students) hanger number also :)

I agree, jepp is really proud of their $4 data card. An adaptor to a microSD is probably not that hard to do

Seriously , you would risk your ass to save 80 dollars on a card for your 15000 dollar GPS , you need to step back and take a deep breath.....

Are you looking to get kicked out of the CB club? ;)

Seriously, you have a valid point.

Pretty simple. Either it works, or it doesn't. Not too much risk.

However, if you're offering me your Garmin WAAS card for $80, I'll take it! :-)

I have sold 15 of the cards in the last year , they fail....  Listen , I am just as frugal as the next guy , maybe even more so because of how I buy......but this is silliness.........And I am still a C.S.O.B.       Cheap son of a Beech.......

Do you have another one for $80? Now that I've joined the "update your cards at home" club, a second one would be oh, so very nice!

Wait just a minute, Hank.

Line forms to the rear on those $80 cards!

Reminds me of the day my kids got in a big fight over imaginary cookies. :-)
