Sorry to disappointment, but just arrived in MD with my truck & trailer to help my kid move. Heck, come to think of it, my fully loaded truck and 10k trailer still is faster than 201er's Mooney!

Hey! While I was typing my last message a buddy sent me an email and said he would fly over and take you on. You up to taking on a Piper Cub?

Hahah -

I was coming in hot today to my home airport with my son after breakfast at Saranac Lake (saw Bruce Springsteen there!) .  I announced traffic at 15 mi out, east, and I was going 175kts.  A guy came on and said piper 4 mi south.  He said maybe I should go first because he was not so fast.  Feeling polite, I said I would slow down and extend and he could go first.  Despite, sure enough, on final he was on roll out when I was on 2 or 3 mi final.

Such a beautiful plane...it was a 2008 cub on floats.  He said it cruises at 80mph (that's miles per hour not knots), it lands at 38mph with engine off or it can land at 30mph dragging it in behind the power curve.  That plane is sooooooooo my dream second plane if I ever could afford a second plane.

ummmmm....did I just thread drift?  Sorry...go get'em Maurauder!

Well that proves it! Marauder is all talk and no show. I was there to show him how my Mooney is faster but I guess he just couldn't take it in person.

And how exactly were we going to do this "race"? Have me take off first and watch you trying to catch me all afternoon or have you take off first, have me pass you and then watch you try to catch me all afternoon? :)

It was again, pretty neat to see multiple Mooney's take off one after the next yesterday.  Sorry you  couldn't make it Marauder, but moving in your kid very much beats a bunch of pilots sitting around a table eating.  It was a great talk and I look forward to meeting you next time and hopefully watching the race between you and Mike.

I went to your gallery to see pics but only saw the panel.  What mods have you completed on your F?  I had a fast F in the past and it would true out at 148, with Ram Air and cold air, would break 150.

Does the fact that mike is "light in the wrists" give him an unfair advantage????  All that hot air he spews definitely makes his gross weight lighter ..... I believe a poll is definitely in order.....

As a J owner, I am rooting for the J  :P

Yeah, I wish I could have made it, if for nothing else than to shut Mike up. I have the 201 windshield, all the gaps seals, lower cowl enclosure, step removed (yeah Mike, just so I can beat you). I really think what is unusual about my F is that it has always had a strong running engine. I flew with a buddy last week who owns a 77 J and has over 3k in it. He said my F is really fast and within a few knots of his bird.

I personally think Mike has something wrong with his plane. He should be faster. When I watch the videos I took of him taking off from my home airport, he just looks to be doing a slower climb out than the other Mooneys that were there. He should be faster!

All your fancy mods combined don't even get yours up to an "H", forget a J!

Too bad, I was pulling for Marauder.  We vintage folk have to stick together.   :D

It would be close... that is, it would be close between you and I :D

It would be really close! What was your power setting @ 152k tas? I'm jealous that you were able to get your Aspen calibrated in knots. My shop was told they had to set up mine in mph since that was certification mode. I notice that the '66E that's flying to France has a new Aspen in knots.?

That flight was at 6500' and my power settings were firewall forward on throttle and 2400 rpm, best power ROP.

The reason my plane is in knots is because my POH is in both knots and mph. Everything is listed in both units including my airspeed indicator. I had the ASI converted from mph on the outer ring to knots. It made keeping the units consistent, especially in the IFR system. Is your manual in both units?
