I have been trying to get some performance numbers for our 1961 m20b, I haven't had a lot of luck. All I've found are the V speeds and a basic checklist from a early m20c, I would like some info for weight and balance, take off and landing distance with different loads ect. The basic things that would be found in a POH... If I understand correctly the older birds arn't required to have a POH, all I currently have is an owners manual that really doesn't have much information.

What year of aircraft require POH's? I am guessing I will have to use an early m20c POH.

Please advise...

Hi,

I also own a M20-B and like you, I have nothing but an Owners manual and have looked far and wide for some more numbers.  So far I have found nothing.  I even sent a note to Mooney about it and have yet to hear from them.  It is my understanding that vintage birds like ours did not have to have the performance data published like they do now.  Please correct me if I am wrong but I have been searching online for some performance software and so far all I have found is a weight and balance program.  My airplane has almost 4,400 hours on it and I just got through with an annual and fuel tank repair job on both tanks.  I have owned it almost three years and I love it.

Hi Erick and Elmer.

I might suggest contacting the one and only Bill Wheat at Mooney.  He is the most valuable historian of technical information for our Mooneys.  Mooney Airplane Company, 830.896.6000, ask for Bill Wheat.

2nd the recommendation to speak with Mr. Wheat

The 65 M20C had the same shortness of information.  Bill Wheat gave me recommendations to use the '65 owners manual in combination with a slightly newer vintage POH for performance data.  My engine had been updated during overhaul and newer POH was a good fit.

See what Bill recommends for you.

Buff,

Welcome aboard.

Mr. Wheat was always a great source of information and help.  He was always supporting all Mooneys no matter how old they were.  Unfortunately there comes a time....

The post you have followed was written in 2010, more than five years ago.  The good news related to this topic.  Mr. Wheat was able to point us in the direction of how to buy the appropriate POH and appropriate owner's manual.  One for legal purposes and the other for the data contained within.

The best news is the factory is alive and well and the MSC network is intact as well.  You may want to give them a call. A guy named Stacy Ellis may be able to provide you the proper docs that you may be looking for.  They were not terribly expensive and they were worth it.

Best regards,
