All,

I presently fly with my yoke mounted 495 on all my flights with my 1st generation iPad in my lap running Xwing.  I also have a panel mounted KLN90B that will soon be replaced with a new 430W.  I was looking to sell the 495 and purchase a new iPad Mini and yoke mount it.  I will probably still hang on to the old iPad for its larger display, but may even keep it in the bag unless it is needed for backup.  Has anyone ditched their 495/496's and done this without any regrets?

Thanks,

Don

I am about to list an AvMap EKP-IV and WxWorx XM weather receiver on Ebay.  It comes with a panel mount and everything needed to connect to aircraft power.  I'd part them both for $1,200 (AvMap is $1,300 new.  WxWorx is $500 new).  They are in excellent condition and work great!  Let me know if you would be interested.

I fly with a panel mounted 496 and a yoke mounted iPad mini. I also have a regular IFR certified GPS. I love the yoke mounted mini, but will not discard the 496 anytime soon. It's a nice backup and has XM weather. I like to fly track up in the 496 while maintaining north up in the iPad. The combination suits me well and find it convenient for situational awareness.

If you fly in the US XM weather is really a plus. I have a 795 and an IPAD. I use both and love them both!

No doubt that the yoke location is the best for these devices. I found the Garmin products to be better performers than the non-aviation tablets. No surprise since Garmin has the expertise and experience on aviation GPS products that the tablet manufacturers don't have.
