If you are in Long Beach just go right to CGS in SoCal, or you can send it to us and we can replace the cylinder.   If you went to the other woman, she’s just a repair broker and will send it to them or us for the actual work anyway.

Interesting...

My problem is that logic suggests that "NEXT FILLING" doesn't make sense, for you could wait another year and still not have used all the O2.  Heck, I've owned my Mooney for nearly 8 years and haven't used my portable O2 tank once!  It doesn't seem like an IA should be expected to sign off on an installed tank that's multiple years past its test date simply because it hasn't been refilled.  BWTHDIK?

The tank test is required for filling, not just for use.  So you could go past the inspection date, as long as you don't fill it.

You know the tank is OK at the current pressure.  But you don't know if it OK at any higher pressure.  Thus the hydro text.

Correct.

I did a poor job of making my point.  Which was that I CAN understand why an IA might not sign off if past the hydro date...in theory, you could do that year after year.  At some point the tank might NOT be okay even if it was holding its current pressure.

I have welding tanks that have not been hydroed in MANY years.  Should not be much happening to them.

However, our airplane tanks are subject to a wider temp range.

Just a suggestion, try looking for a used tank that's newer then your existing and has a manufacturing date younger than yours. Depending on the date stamped on the tank you may have time left even before its next hydro-test Possibly eBay, or salvage yards may have one.

As for the regulator don't send it to the rebuilder in Quebec. Parts are scarce and a rebuild will be north of $5K CND.

I am pretty sure the IPC list multiple options including the composite 115 cu ft i have in my 252. you can use any of the listed ones in the IPC applicable to your airframe.
Changing out the larger holding bands is not an issue and shouldn’t be very expensive.
C&L aero can IRAN your 1st stage and functionally test your second stage- or find you an exchange if it’s not working properly. I am pretty sure they can also supply the tank and holding bands as well. They do everything wrt to Oxygen systems.

Some will say the tank vendor needs to have a STC for your airframe but many IA’s will consider it a minor mod. All the tanks are made to the same DOT standards.

I’ll put in a call to C&L to see if they carry the brackets, but does anyone have any other sources for the larger (115cf) brackets called for in the ipc?  They seem to be 803272-10 as the Mooney part number but I haven’t been successful actually finding them.

my 77cf kevlar bottle is about to expire and id like to replace it with the 115cf bottle, but Id also like to have my ducks in a row when my IA asks about the part numbers…

So you work for CGS?  You guys bailed me out earlier this year when the (new to me) shop sent my tank and regulator to the shop they had always used.  Estimate came back WAY high and my regulator that was working perfectly and no unexpected loss/leakage suddenly had multiple leaks in both sages.  He got it back and I had gotten recommendations (from here) and send it to you.

Still wonder if the regulator parts you received were actually the original ones that came out of my regulator at the other shop.  But we'll never know.

Pete, Im curious, since I use that same shop… why did they have to send out your working regulator in the first place?  If the bottle needs hydro, that doesn’t mean the regulator needs to go in too, does it?

I a little gray on this now.  But no, typically just the bottle goes in.  I'm not sure he didn't think it needed to go in due to a time limit for inspection.  And although I was shocked at the first quote, I couldn't remember when the last time it was checked.  So probably not a bad thing to do.

And if you're talking about "using" the shop and you have O2 questions...  Does this mean you found a plane????

(Side note on the 3/2 meeting, I'll be back in NYC.  So I'll probably hit you up when I get back for a quick overview.  Think the Skyway will be open again by then??? :D)

Makes sense. I don’t think there’s a time requirement for inspection if the regulator is working correctly, but you’re right, probably reasonable to have it looked at on occasion!  I need to talk to Pete about all this and see if we see eye to eye.

I liked flying in your airplane so much that I found a nice 252/Encore conversion!  I’m very excited to pick it up next week.  Pictures to follow…

I hadn’t heard of the Skyway burning down until yesterday.  Seems like they might be lucky to be back open before spring?  They had so much cool, old memorabilia.  I hope it wasn’t all destroyed.

I’ll take notes at the hangar meeting.  I’ve got it on my schedule.

Congratz on the plane!!  Here in the PNW or are you going to have a nice long XC to get familiar with the plane?
