Verv Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 Which mag (Left or Right) needs to be replaced when swapping to SureFly electronic Mag Quote

The power connection to the SureFly is also simple, since the master switch solenoid is on the firewall just aft of the left mag. 1 Quote

DXB Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 Definitely left - the added ease of starting if you put it on that side is spectacular. 1 Quote
EricJ Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 Can you not use it for starting if you put it on the right? In other words retain the starting magneto and also have the Surefly helping to start? That'd be almost as good as the dual mag. Quote

Doesn’t the switch ground the right mag during start? Quote

Doesn’t the switch ground the right mag during start? Normally, yes. I have never figured out why only one mag has an impulse coupling, my 1946 C-85, both mags have impulse couplings, among other things it means of course they are identical, which would seem to be a plus, but I guess impulse couplings aren’t free. ‘Knowing nothing about this installation but I assume it’s an STC? If so then your held to whatever the STC says, it may indicate which mag to replace? Quote

A64Pilot Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 Just me but I don’t like SOS, I’d get rid of that, but if I had an impulse mag, I’d keep it. Others have never had any problems with SOS and like it, so it’s a personal thing I guess Quote

On many ignition switches it is a minor jumper change, or if you use something like the electroair switches you can just wire them independently and start with whatever you want. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/ea_08-17141.php 1 Quote

It starts up even better. 3 Quote
