Hello Mooney People

Just completed the very fine Mooney flight instruction in Ocala. This meeting of Mooney instruction happens around the country about five or six times a year. lectures and four hours of dual. Good chance to learn a lot. very friendly bunch and worthwhile

I was also fortunate enough to join @Alan Maurer at the Ocala Summit.  I’ll echo that it was a great learning and social weekend.  To be able to discuss specific Mooney aircraft handling techniques and Mooney maintenance topics on top of safety reviews and flights was an added benefit.  The Summit is my new BFR plan every two years.

I was planning to attend the PPP in Ocala last weekend but in the end had to back out. I was actually just one airport over, at CGC, and heard lots of Mooney chatter on the radio with JAX, especially on Sunday as everyone was headed home.

Just a note though, there is an actual Mooney Summit that happens in and around Tampa annually in the Fall, but it is totally separate from the PPP put on by the Safety Foundation. Our own @mike_elliott is usually involved with putting on the Summit. Both are great events.

I actually got to meet both Alan and Anthony and it was a real pleasure to attend with them. I had lunch with Alan and what an amazing aviation life he has experienced! Chuck, (Round Two) I have known for a couple years on his journey for his J model. He bailed me out on my annual this year "Ubering" me to Manning, SC. Finally got to meet Paul Kortopates too. A real gentleman and he had a great tale of flying in Cuba. It is always great to meet our community and put faces with names!

I can report my instructor put me through some failure modes of the G1000 that I have never experienced in flight and some where a real eye opener. The redundancy of the system is amazing, but I must say the most crippling was the loss of the ADC.

I have attended two PPP events previously and am looking forward to the third at Owensboro later this year.

I’m hoping to get to OWO myself. Couldn’t make Ocala and my Bravo had just started annual.

I used to fly with John all the time when I lived back east.  Any juice stories I can rib him about ?!?!

I signed up for Ocala and pulled out because the aircraft was not going to be in a condition to go (engine break-in and install gremlins). However, I moved my reservation to Santa Maria, so who is going? Pretty hard to find Mooney-specific instruction of this quality. Have flown with some great instructors in the past, John Pallante, Bud Winslow (both of whom fly 231’s), Jerry Johnson, Parvez Dara, Wayne Fischer. Who else is going? April 5-7, KSMX .

I haven't registered yet, but hope to make it to KSMX.  So I'll see you and @amillet there.

I was also able to attend Ocala, my 4th Pilot Proficiency Course with this group. It is a great way to learn from some of the best, most seasoned Mooney pilots who know their aircraft, the systems and how to operate them. Every time I attend, I meet new interesting people with the same passion for our machines and learn a ton.  And, the instructors are great people who are very supportive - and they volunteer. I highly recommend it to all. You won't regret it.
