On the Aero Classics website it says that part number is for a piper. They have a different part number for the M20J.

That explains the missing logbook entry.

I did find two vernathem replacements, one in 11/2010 and another in 7/2016.

Do they go bad that often? I'm wondering if there were replaced but not root cause and that the engine just runs this way. I'm 1650 SMOH on a Mattituck

I don't think they do, but they tend to get swapped out a lot when people are chasing hot oil temperature issues that are probably due to something else.

Log update -

Did not find any mention of oil cooler replacement. I stopped reading at year 2002.

No, they don’t go bad. I would look et the seat. There is a room for resurfacing the seat in the engine. I did it once. I borrowed the tool from the engine shop. It helped more than anything else. You could see it was warn, just looking in the engine with the vernatherm removed. Your vernatherm is on the right side of the oil filter just above one of the oil cooler hoses. It looks like a plug with a thin wrench boss.

Yeah, it definitely does… I wonder if it has the correct cooling capacity for a Mooney?  Weird that it’s the wrong cooler?  Good catch.

You have a different engine though. Do you know where the sensor is?

JPI sensor is front of engine.
