May bethe airspeed safety switch. Does the red button next to the gear switch light up and if you press and hold it does the gear then retract?

If your airplane has electric gear, we’re going to need more information such as make/model/year.

When my gear motor windings welded, i had fixed gear mooney :) hope its the sensor switch, overhauls are getting more expense and taking longer.

Check emergency gear red lever on floor.

If not locked, gear won’t retract.

Yes it’s in the POH, 1 sentence hidden in section 7-17 for me.

I added checking it to my prestart checklist.

Sounds like it has been working, but now, suddenly, it's not.  Was it serviced about the time it started giving you trouble?  Any other events that happened about the same time?

I had some avionics work done in the middle of the summer that included installing an LHS landing height system that was wired to the gear switch. First test flight the gear would not retract. Tried the red button, no luck. Had the tower check the gear and it was down. Landing was uneventful. On inspection, there was a bad crimp, I assume it was at the connector to the switch. Got that fixed and all was good. Don't know if that gives you any hints, but it could just be a bad switch or connection. In addition to checking the Emergency Gear lock to make sure it is closed, did you try the breaker? There is also a safety switch that prevents the gear from retracting below some speed, I think its 40 kts but not sure. The red button on the upper part of the panel near the center is the by-pass if you want to retract the gear but the safety switch is not letting you. Other than that, get it to your mechanic.

It that’s it it will trip the Gear breaker, so if you reseat the lever, check the breakers, too.

If the gear stopped retracting during a cold snap, it may be that your gear pucks are approaching their end of useful life. That happened to me. The date (month / year) is molded into the outside edge of the pucks.

I'm guessing from your N number that you have a Rocket, which means a larger, heavier engine. That means shorter puck life.

I've seen an "N305" Mooney before--is yours dark red all over?

That would only apply to models that had squat switches. Did any M20Ks have squat switches?
