  1. I think I have an EA100. It was used to connect my Aspen 2500 to my STEC 55x. Was working perfectly when I had it removed a couple years ago and replaced with the upgrade that has altitude preselect.
  2. I’ve had similar problems a couple times over the 1000 hours or so in my J. Pressure bouncing around has been the fuel pressure sending unit (they are relatively cheap and easy to replace). Have also had the fuel flow meter act up and it is remedied with cleaning and lubrication by the A&P.
  3. Yes, the plane has become a vital part of my business. I’m gone from home base 3 weeks a month. The extra speed will give me a few more hours at home each month. I have about 1000 hours in the M20J, it has been a great bird and I’m going to keep it for the time being until I prove the Rocket will fit the mission better. The Arctic Air blows cool air, but never gets the cabin cool. It just keeps it tolerable. It functions as a swamp cooler and has an additional heat exchanger that the ice cold water is pumped through. (Fan and water pump each have their own switch) With the J model anything over 10,000ft is not real practical as you start losing speed, climb, etc. Below 10k and you have to run the Arctic Air the whole trip, keeps it tolerable but not cold. Having to source ice prior to the flight is a pain. (I’m not at home base most of the time) Note that block ice lasts longer. It also takes up most of the baggage area so I find I fly without it most of the time.
  4. Thanks for the options guys but I was only looking for direct opinions on FIKI vs A/C. My schedule and locations don’t allow for other, and I have an Arctic Air cooler and I’m not impressed with that option. Anyway, I’m about to pull the trigger on a 305 Rocket with TKS and update the panel. About 200k less than an Acclaim.
  5. We already do the swamp cooler thing, it’s not ideal. It’s marginal at best and takes up most of our luggage space.
  6. An Ovation is not enough speed advantage over the J to justify the upgrade. So it’s a Type S or stay with the J.
  7. I’ve currently got an M20J which I consistently put 250hrs a year on, mostly for work which requires me to fly in nearly all conditions, fortunately it’s almost exclusively in the south. I’ve been doing this for 5 years and have not run into any significant icing. However I frequently run into the wife complaining about the heat. I think I’ll be able to move up to a Type S in a year or two. I know there is not enough payload for FIKI and A/C for real world use so I have to choose. A Type S will climb into the teens pretty quickly and once there the temperature is usually tolerable for her. I personally just deal with the heat and see the safety factor of FIKI. Any advice from Type S drivers on what to choose. My normal trip is 300-400 miles with 1-3 people and a light load. Occasional 1000mile vacation trip/camping but this is when I need full fuel and have a heavy load. Thanks for any advice, -Chip
  8. Hello, I’ve been considering upgrading to a Type S and I have a J model. My plane is a 1987 M20J, I don’t know the exact hours but around 5000 total and 1250 on the engine. Flown regularly. 3 panel Aspen, Garmin Stack, Stec 55x, flight director, alt pre-select. I’m interested in your real world numbers to see if it makes sense for me. If you could providE Max Cruise and Economy Cruise speeds and fuel burn at 6k, 12k, 18k, 24k for your bird that would help. And rate of Climb up to 24k. Thanks, -Chip
