goodyFAB Posted August 12, 2022 Report Posted August 12, 2022 hi all , this is my first post here. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the stall strip (TKS) for the mooney m20k 1979 vintage is the same as any other aircraft so I can broaden my search for a stall strip. any help or advice would be appreciated. mike_elliott Posted August 12, 2022 Report Posted August 12, 2022 These titanium TKS stall strips are glued on and when lost, become not only difficult to obtain timely, but are very pricey. They are different than the non TKS mooney stall strips. Quote
carusoam Posted August 12, 2022 Report Posted August 12, 2022 Welcome aboard Goody! We have a TKS guy that stops by every now and then…. TKS guy… @CAV Ice @CAV Ice Protection Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
LANCECASPER Posted August 12, 2022 Report Posted August 12, 2022 They are "glued" with fuel tank sealant (pro seal) and are close to $2000 and the airplane isn't airworthy without it. Here's a picture of a TKS stall strip on an Encore that I used to have: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mmw2kpp3apduya6/IMG_4563.jpeg?dl=0 Quote
carusoam Posted August 14, 2022 Report Posted August 14, 2022 M20K305 sounds like a Rocket… See if @aviatoreb is familiar with TKS strips getting free…. Best regards, -a- Quote

Best regards, -a- Yup - they can fall off! Had one fall off in flight and fall right into Lake Michigan from 17k! If anyone finds it please let me know and I will send my address. In that case, one was not obtainable/available for like 4 months! Best to add check the stall strips to your preflight - just touch them and make sure they are secure - no need to yank them - and perhaps re-glue them in any case at least every decade? 2 Quote
milotron Posted August 14, 2022 Report Posted August 14, 2022 I had one break free, but there is also a feed tube behind it that connects in the back. Mine was dangling by the metal tube. I re-attached with the secret sauce adhesive, and redid the other at the same time as it was also loose. If your came right off, there might be other damage with the missing tube, so a bit more than just gluing a new one on. Quote
milotron Posted August 14, 2022 Report Posted August 14, 2022 I can also offer this document that was provided by someone when I had this issue. TKS Stall Trigger Installation.pdf 1 Quote

geoffb Posted August 16, 2022 Report Posted August 16, 2022 I've added them to my preflight. A little tape will get you home if you catch them before they fall off. The fuel tank adhesive is easy to make a mess with. Glove are your friend. Quote
