Random questions for the group:

Is there a chain I can use to keep the fuel cap on? I’m tired of replacing these rubber things.

Random question #2: any fire extinguishers that fit in the bracket for a H3R Model RT-A1200? I noticed mine was empty  and tried to buy a replacement but apparently they’re “discontinued due to leaks.”

and some stainless ringy dingy from the sailboat tackle box.  AKA split rings.

There is another thought about gas cap chains

IF the cap were to pop off in flight without the chain it would fly off the wing with little damage to the wing

BUT

IF it has a chain it might flop around quite a lot banging up the top of the wing.

Had one pop off 50 years ago on a Cessna and heard it flop around until I slowed to 70 MPH   It also sucked the tank dry.

Well, then I DEFINITELY want the chains. I don’t want my gas cap getting sucked out of the plane like that guy got sucked out of his Taylorcraft a few months ago.

Somebody around here was selling the rubber ones a while back….

I have a chain and a rubber thing…

The chain isn’t very paint friendly….

I’ve had No issues with either…  except the rubber one doesn’t age very well…

You’d think but my student flew for 3 hours with the cap off on the chain on our c-t206 and did no damage.

This is a stupid pilot admission, a few months  ago I took off in my C-140 and almost immediately heard a LOUD banging, found if I kicked it way out of trim the banging stopped, flew around and landed.

Took a lot of hunting to find it was the right side gas cap, I had left it off when I refueled and being a high wing it’s out of sight without a ladder. It didn’t do any damage but I believe that was largely due to slow speed and me figuring out, out of trim made it stop. I lost very little fuel.

50 years or so my Father lost his gas cap on his C model, lost most of the tank of fuel too in one pattern, of course a mooney you see the fuel streaming out unlike a Cessna.

My O+N caps don’t have lanyards and I won’t be adding them either
