Nukemzzz Posted May 17, 2021 Report Posted May 17, 2021 So over the last couple of flights I’ve picked up a nasty popping and crackling sound in the headset. You can hear it in this video. It sounds a lot like frying bacon, you can feel the popping on your ears, and it’s aggravating. Seems to mainly happen when at full throttle. Turning the radios off doesn’t change it. Pushing buttons on the audio panel doesn’t change it. Messing with the intercom doesn’t change it. Messing with the headphone plugs doesn’t change it. I checked the mag p leads and they look fine. Nothing has changed that I’m aware of other than adding a WAT Pro LED light but it’s turned off. I need to do more troubleshooting on the next flight. Just wondering if anyone recognizes the sound. Ragsf15e Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 Or loose plug wires. Check all the plugs. Id listen to it on a mag check to see if it changes, that should narrow it down if it’s mags or plugs. 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) I assume it only does it with the engine running? Have you cycled the mags when it’s doing it to see if it does it on both mags? Edited May 18, 2021 by N201MKTurbo 1 Quote

MBDiagMan Posted May 23, 2021 Report Posted May 23, 2021 Have you cleaned the headset phono plugs with scotch brite? Quote

This is not very helpful but I upgraded my generator to an alternator years ago and can't remember why. It wasn't because of a failure. Seems like I had some issue with avionics. Would be interesting to know if that turns out to be your problem. Quote

Seems like I had some issue with avionics. Would be interesting to know if that turns out to be your problem. I experienced this “frying bacon” issue a couple of times. One time it was the insulating washers on the headphone jacks.https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pnpages/04-00976.php?gclid=CjwKCAjw47eFBhA9EiwAy8kzNNpUFbp67qOHIm_68iEdqVwygcWvEocl_-xVVRfaPTdHJ-ojX2fHKBoCCg8QAvD_BwEThe other time it was after we installed Bruce’s Spatial Designs interior. The rear jacks were rubbing on the foil backing for the insulation.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro 2 Quote
