I am having some trouble getting a local AME for my 3rd class medical.  Mine is due in September, but my local AME is not doing them during COVID.  I am in Fredericksburg, VA.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Also, does anyone expect FAA to relax the 2 year requirement again and how does this impact our insurance?

Did mine recently, but they are not taking new patients during COVID.  They did extend it, but I think there were some restrictions, or maybe that was just for currency.  Might be a time to consider basic med.

I am an AME in the Boston area.  I have been doing flight physicals.  My protocol has been to have the pilot check a COVID viral test, and since it is so simple an antibody test

before I see them.  These tests will most likely be paid for by the pilot's medical insurance.  I do Class I, II and III.  My cell phone is (617) 877-0025 or e-mail me here or at john.breda@gmail.com.  The closest airport to me is Norwood, MA (OWD).

Thanks,

John Breda

I had mine this month, my AME didn't stop doing them.

Me too.  I got mine done this month.  I think there is some kind of extension at the moment if it is expiring right now?  Mine was due to expire at the end of July even if I could fly on continuance but for how long?

I figure pandemic is sort of in a lull in the Northeast so better get it now before the shit might hit the fan again.

Does that make you an Aircraft Medical Expert?

TRansport Canada and many other countries call us Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.  Your equivalent would be A&P/IA.

I totally forgot you have different nomenclature for job titles.  I thought I was just making a funny acronym.  Do you have to have a different qualification for powerplant or not? I’d assume not if you said our equivalent is A&P/IA.
