  1. I’ve had this problem a couple of times and it has been broken wires where they exit the yoke tube and another time I had a bad micro switch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Vinyl numbers are certainly available and they aren’t terribly expensive. I’ve used them on aircraft which had the little tiny numbers - ATC couldn’t read them - and they worked well. No ideas the legalities of having only Vinyl numbers however…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I’ve was thinking the same thing! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Highly recommend Oasis in Willmar. I’m also in Michigan and have been getting my J serviced there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. How much do they weigh? Last week I had the airplane parked at the ramp on a trip and saw constant lightning for 30-45 min in the direction of the airport. Fortunately, no significant hail, but I was extremely concerned. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It’s a good idea, but I only use vacuum for the backup AH which drives the autopilot and vacuum speed brakes. I’ve considered getting an electric back-up pump but I’m already fairly light in the useful load department. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Changing oil to me is a pain as I seemingly haven't figured out how to get the filter off without making a mess and getting oil everywhere, the rest is not big deal to me. Any of you see the AOPA video demonstrating the anti-splat tool? Thoughts??
  8. No worries. I actually had it fixed earlier this week. I confirmed it was actually fixed flying today! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. This is exactly what I found. It seems the hose was linked where it connected to the main vacuum line. All good now! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I have an instrument warning source inop light that is lit. However, I have no malfunctioning instruments and the vacuum is reading in the normal range. Before I take the glare shield off and start following wires, anyone have any idea what this warning light is indicating?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Oasis in Willmar MN Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Any chance you are going to OshKosh this year? GLAP isn't so far away in Michigan. I've picked up parts directly at the factory previously.
  13. I would mask around the installed stall strip with masking tape to mark where it is currently, remove the strip, abrade the surface per the instructions and re-glue it…. Do you have the instructions from Cav ice? I can send them to you if you don’t already have them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. A reminder to all you Mooney drivers who have TKS. Check the stall strips and ensure it is still bonded well to the wing. It's a $1200 replacement part. Re-gluing it isn't difficult but does take a little patience and time. Don't ask me how I know....
  15. She looks like a nice bird! Let us know how it goes! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I missed the part that you are working towards your IR rating. In that case I would absolutely recommend TKS. As mentioned, it provides a extra margin of safety but you ultimately need to evaluate your mission and how you fly and in which conditions. Personally, I wish I had waited for a FIKi bird now, but I’m not planning to upgrade either at this point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I probably wouldn’t if you are VFR only and plan to stay that way. With TKS, you typically lose a significant amount of useful load and is just another system to maintain. That being said, I have it on my J and really like having it. TKS in a J model is not FIKi certified but it does give a little peace of mind and a bit more time to get out of an icing situation. 18. Who did you order it from? I ordered wingtip lenses from Great Lakes Aero which were out of stock and they produced it pretty quickly - probably within a week. I live close enough I just picked it up. They also produce windshelds.
  19. Interesting article but it seems to have a few “interesting” points! “and the Mooney M20J’s elevator pitch was accomplished by moving the entire tail assembly, a low-drag solution that added to the Mooney’s speed advantage over other four-seat single-engine airplanes.” I don’t know about your Mooney, but mine has normal elevators with movable tail for trim[emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I bought one on ebay awhile ago. Keep looking, you might get lucky.
  21. I’ve had this issues a few times on my J. Twice it was a broken wire in the area of where the wire exits the yoke at the bottom and once a bad micro switch (1 of 3) in the trim switch itself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Sounds like a broken wire somewhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. A 201 wing just popped up on Barnstormers. https://www.barnstormers.com/classified-1630985-Mooney-201-wing-assembly.html?catid=20590
  24. Not sure about windows but I purchased a wingtip lens from them and picked it up in a few days (less than a week) as they didn’t have the RH side in stock so they had to make it. Good people. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
