Hi,

has anybody done or knows how to do a grossweight increase on a 231 ?

I found an STC on the Mooney website - but that seems not to be valid for a 231...

As some Rockets are based on the 231 I thought it should be possible.

Thanks,

Emmet

Many Rockets have a GW increase to 3200#.  Some don't.  I am not sure why some do and some don't and I'm not sure it applies to a 231.  Not the most help, sorry.

Hi Emmet,

I'm not aware of a gross weight increase for a Mooney 231.  My 252 is getting a gross weight increase to 3130 due to an Encore conversion, which raises the horsepower to 220 and adds some more powerful brakes.

Really?  Some of the rockets do not have the gross weight increase?  Ouch - the engine weighs more as we both know.

As far as I know the rocket does not get improved brakes or landing gear.  I could be wrong.  I am not the least bit surprised with that mongo engine out front that it can get up but I am a little surprised that there is no gear issues.  Anyway, first thing I did when I got my rocket in April was to change out for fresh gear pucks since they seemed a bit tired.

Is there an upgrade path that would get a 231 to be a 262 then up to the newer 252 style engine to 220hp for the gross weight increase?  Just curious.

Parker:  How much additional useful load do you get with this conversion?  I have a 252 and really wish it had more useful load. Also, do you have an estimate of how much the Encore conversion is going to cost?
