201er Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 I was coming back Saturday from Northeast Pittsburgh and going to Blairstown. I was getting up to 185knots groundspeed. A combination of great winter performance and a tailwind made for some awesome speed. Allentown approach cleared me to descend from 9000 so I reduced the power and took it down nice and easy. Some jerk in a S35 Bonanza, N5839S, decided to be a smartass and wanted approach to relay to me that my airplane wasn't fast enough. I pulled the liveatc and made video of the humorous exchange: 12 Quote

Hank Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 Fun video! I think you two confused ATC . . . Is that your Nanook of the North hat that you bought on your Far Reaches of Canada trip??? Surely it's not a souvenir from Cuba! Quote

And as for ATC, I'd feel especially bad if it turns out the poor sucker owns likes a cessna or piper 2 Quote

Amelia Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 So very sad. I am currently waiting for the insurance company to decide what to do with my old aluminum friend of >30 years. It is heartbreakingly close to the line, it seems, and just couldn't watch the video. Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 What happened, Amelia?Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 NM, just found your story. So glad you're not broken...well done in that regarding keeping your wits. I can't imagine changing planes after that long! I'm not quite 10 years into blissful Mooney stewardship, and I'd be heartbroken!Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote

gsxrpilot Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 I did KMEM to KHYI about 6 months ago. ATC noted that there was a Bonanza going the same place, same time, same altitude, etc. and asked us what was going on in San Marcos. It was nothing but coincidence. We were both solo, same route, same altitude, same speed and were within 5 miles of each other the whole way. On landing within a couple of minutes of each other, we introduced ourselves and compared notes. The only difference between my M20K and the A36 was fuel. M20K 40gal. (100+ ROP) A36 52gal. 1 Quote

At 9000ft and -12C, it was still chilly with the heat on max. I didn't want to sit in my cumbersome jacket so I opted to throw on the hat instead. You lose like 50% of your body heat through your head so putting on a hat is like putting on an extra layer. +1 for halo. Try that in a bulky Bose, lightspeed, or David Clark! 3 Quote
Danb Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 Alan was carrying a load of old avionics for sale or trade, I was coming home from Detroit last year and a smart ass in a Baron who was asked to go higher or lower for the faster moving traffic, he queried the controller who said immediate descend the Mooneys ground speed is 25 knots faster, after he went down and was humbled he went after the controller again saying it couldn't be a Mooney the controller asked if he wanted is prior altitude back the Mooney is 9 miles in front leaving you in his wake, silence. Hey do have an attitude. 4 Quote

In a real headset the most important part of your head, your ears, are covered already. Let me get this straight: We're always hearing: I don't like DC, they're too hot! Now we're to hear that DC are too cold? Make up your minds. Quote

Worst of both I will admit the suckiest thing about the halo headsets is that you have to thaw out the ear buds and warm them up or you can't get them in your ears. But once they warm up to operating temp, they're great. 2 Quote
