PTK Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Let me see if I undetstand this correctly. Aspen is charging its customers who bought their displays for data that's not even theirs? Aspen is charging for Garmin data? Do I have this straight? And if I do my question would be why? If I don't please someone explain it to me? Quote

Good point. With the high cost of install work upgrades are a good way to keep the panel updated. 1 Quote

If I don't please someone explain it to me? For the same reason Garmin charges you $3K to display WSI weather on the GMX200, or $2.5K to display BK RDR-2000 on your GTN, because it cost them money to develop and certify that feature. I'm going to assume you only charge once for teeth cleaning and then it's all freebies for the rest of the customer's life. I love this attitude we have here, being I assume most of you don't do pro bono work 100% of time as you all seem to be able to afford to fly and yet you expect Aspen to work for free. Like I said, being it's a real time, certified software on a custom platform, it probably took at least 500 hours or so just to write the code to handle the data feed, and another couple of hundred just to study Garmin's specs. Dan, This is a new feature, wasn't even on the drawing board when Aspen first came out. You still running Windows 3.1? No. So you've paid Microsoft for new software before. Why should Aspen be different just because it's software? Quote

BTW, I stated $2,500, which is what the going price was for it two years ago when I got the GTN installed. I admit that it can be confusing the way they label the available products. To use Jeppesen JeppView Charts you need to upgrade the 750 unit with Garmin ChartView. IMO the better / cheaper way to go is to use Garmin FliteCharts which is already installed on the 750. You can use the PilotPak to update the charts etc. 1 Quote

We have a Garmin 396 strapped to the yoke whose sole purpose at this point is to provide audio terrain warnings. It was cool when new, but at this point everything it can do is better handled through hardware in the panel or on an iPad. I'd just as soon get it off the yoke and sell it or give it away. But I'm not willing to give up audio terrain warnings, and Big G wants literally *thousands* of dollars to unlock TAWS on our GTN650. :-( 1 Quote

Clarence If you recall, a few years ago a cable was cut in Egypt that supplied the internet connection from North America to India. It was down for several hours and all traffic to India halte. If that didn't make American corporations wake up, nothing will. Quote

I really like the idea of ditching the stratus and getting traffic and weather on my "vintage" 530W. I wonder what I can get out of my GTX330ES? If the 335 sells for $2,995 I'm guessing $2,000?? I recently upgraded to an NGT-9000 at Pacific Coast Avionics. They gave me $800 for my GTX327, surely they will be willing to pay a lot more for an ES. Give them or GCA a call. Couldn't hurt to ask. 1 Quote
