A longshot, but a friend of mine has a dog that's up for a role in a new Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Ben Stiller flick. She (owner and dog) is looking for a ride from Western Colorado (KMTJ, KTEX, KDRO, or KGJT) to NYC on or around 2/28...if anyone is heading that way, there will be Hollywood-style compensation (whatever that means)!

I know. And yes, this is for real.

Didn't Lassie have her own jet?

I am actually a bit put off if rich folk would be asking small GA piston engine owners to donate their time and mooney to move their dog. I volunteer for pilots n paws, and I am proud to do it, but I consider it charity work.  I would not donate charity time or money to Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Ben Stiller flick, although I would be happy to work with them on a legit charity effort.  If they need their dog moved for a movie, expense it.

Hollywood compensation and GA planes.  Is that a category of shared expenses?

You might get some resistance on that one...

You are thinking FARs here? part ____   , no compensation for flights unless.....

I wasn't saying I want them to pay me.  I was saying that they have the money, and they should hire a commercial operation to move their dog, and so leave the charity operations free to actually help those that do not have money to pay their own way.

I was saying ,they say they are going to pay, so then it is in  that commercial area.

Erik , I understand you point perfectly.

I tend to agree with Erik. If the movie has the budget for A list stars they should have the budget for transporting a dog. Even a regular airline can get that done for less cost than flying a GA plane. If they really need/want the dog they will pay for it. Or maybe it's really the dog's owner that is more desperate to get it in the movie. I'll be flying 3 dogs on my own dime tomorrow, but they are being saved from shelters and given a new chance at a good life, not used to make money.

Regardless, if compensation is involved it's a commercial venture and the pilot and aircraft need to have the proper paperwork.

That might be a little extreme. If your wife makes you a sandwich is she STEALING from the deli down the street? I think not. Still, I'd rather give a ride to those truly in need.

Sometimes I read responses that make my blood boil. First off FAR 61.113(c) clearly states that cost sharing is completely legal. No one said "Hollywood compensation" meant cash. I fly dogs whenever I can and have been treated to a Lobster dinner with champagne. (now I expect some idiot to ask if I flew after drinking). Someone even offered me a weekend at a beach resort condo.

If you don't like the idea of helping someone with their pet, especially when your going that way anyway, then shut up. Some of us are willing to do what we can for anyone, or any pet, in need.

I would hope that people who can afford to own an airplane are generally intellectually capable of making their own decisions in terms of their charity or how they use their planes.  A new poster and new Mooney owner asked if some people were interested in helping out on an endeavor, nothing more.  Not sure why the thread has turned so ugly or that people assume there are "rich" people involved when nothing in Brian's post alluded to that or that they have the money to fly for what appears to be an audition for a dog.

He asked if anyone was going in that direction and available to give a ride, let's cut the guy a break.

True enough - I apologize for having stepped on toes and turned it ugly.  I read what sounded like movie stars asking for transportation for their dog, but I see now thanks to several folks pointing out that is not what was being said perhaps, which is someone asking for a ride for their dog to a possible opportunity.  I plead being a bit daft and reading too fast.  Again I apologize.

Since it has been mentioned in passing in this post, if anyone is interested in helping out pets, Pilots-N-Paws is a place to start.  It is for charity so no compensation or need for a commercial license.  My family and I have done a couple of these.  It gives me a reason to fly, and my wife never complains about the fuel bill associated with the flights so really it's a win-win situation.

You guys are super entertaining. I appreciate the passion. Sadly, this is not helping the super rich. Or even the slightly rich. Just a girl and a nervous dog who has a unique opportunity to pee on Ben Stiller's leg. She's worried that the pup will not have a pleasant experience in pet cargo and knew that I know lots of pilots who fly east. Of course, at the end of the day, United will do...but when it comes down to it, the posts/arguments above were well worth the price of admission.
