We are headed to the Russian River in Maggie II.  Family reunion at the Odd Fellows Recreational Center on the river.  It's like stepping back to the 50's.  Located amongst the giant trees with wood cabins, bingo, nightly family dance, volleyball, softball, Bocce ball, tennis, cakewalk, etc.  Hanging out at the river and having giant squirt gun fights with canoes passerbyers!

Where ever you are flying your Mooney, have a great weekend!

If we manage to skirt our way around several nasty weather situations, we'll be flying to a wedding in NE Ohio this weekend, an excuse to hang out with fun family. Currently watching the clouds gather over the Albemarle Sound in advance of Earl's visit tonight. Got fingers crossed, small craft secured, hoping we'll get nothing more than some rain and a brisk breeze, but could be obnoxious, depending on last-minute jogs to the west.

I've flown so much this year that I am right up against 100-hour ADs that need to be complied with before I can go anywhere. Sadly, because of an airshow at my local airport (WVI) this weekend I can't work on my airplane this week (no hangar) to get things done in time. So unfortunately, I'm grounded for a week or so. Maybe I'll put the airplane on display to "represent" the Mooneys!

Ken, very sorry to hear about the loss of your chief flight instructor.  It might be helpful as a learning experience for you to post details as appropriate when the investigation continues.  I am sure you all are in shock.

Won't be flying (myself anyways) this weekend. Going to Long Beach to visit friends on Jet Blue. Anyhow, my plane's still not sorted out. It's turning out to be kind of like a British car, work on it all week to fly on the weekend.Undecided In addition to the electrical issues, I now have a broken engine baffle. Small L bracket broke in half last flight, the air pushed the baffle up into the cowl and when I took the top cowl off to see what was up with the alternator, I snagged the baffle and it got all bent up. It has been repaired before as it has been sistered, so I figure it's time to just put a new one in. I called Russel at SWTA, the folks who made the baffle and checked about a new one. He said; "This isn't the 80's anymore, so we don't stock parts for our mods anymore. We have to make each replacement part from scratch when needed. We're super busy right now, so at least a week for us to make you up a new one. If you want it quick, It's pretty easy, why don't you make it yourself?" Ordered the material from Aircraft Spruce and that's what I'ma gunna do. Another project. I swear this plane will actually go somewhere someday...

Ken- So sorry to hear of the tradgedy at your airport. What a horror story. A good reminder that flying GA really is more dangerous and unforgiving than anything else we are likely to do in our lives.

Mitch,

You're going to luck-out. The weather all summer here in Santa Rosa has been foggy all day intil 1 pm. The last few days it's been hot but the skies have been severe clear. Let me know if you want to see or have time to see the mythical fixed-gear Mooney. I've got her hangared at Santa Rosa if that's where you're flying into.

skywarrior and amelia--

If you're near southern Ohio [what a contradiction in terms!] or eastern Kentucky, there's an event this Sunday at Robert Newlon Airfield just east of Huntington, WV. It's a beautiful 2200' grass strip with brand new campground and a dock on the Ohio River. Skydiving records will be attempted, barbecue will be eaten, lies swapped and fun had by all who come.

My Mooney will be parked there for much of the day before departing for the hangar 6nm away; it will take a half-hour to drive back after the 4-minute flight for the bonfire, as Newlon has no lights and some unfriendly-in-the-dark features at both ends.

Ya'll come on down! Anyone else in the neighborhood is welcome to come, too.

My wife and I are flying from Altanta area down to St. Augustine, FL for the long weekend. Another couple we know has a condo down there and invited us. It'll be a nice break.

381 Sierra Papa will be flying.  We are going to Madeline Island for a walk along the beach, to the Ashland County fair, and then on to Bemidji for a family picnic.  Along the way I will pick up a couple of stamps for the Minnesota Aviation Passport program (I want that leather flight jacket!).
