I would go with a portable GPS instead.

Leave the compass that's in there right where it is to be legal, but if your DG or HSI goes, I'd much rather have the accuracy of a portable GPS for heading than any compass.

Easy mount on steel tubing above glare shield by A&P. We had very little magnetic deviation at this location.

Not so easy to cosmetically  replace void from old compass . (Locals said it was a sticky wicket).

My solution was Aerocomfort, San Antonio, 210-340-0177.

Highly recommended, nice cosmetic result and no more alcohol in the cockpit.

Best,

VFR-Day et al... Magnetic Compass...

According to my C's POH.

The O has two magnetic compasses... One in the wing.

O POH only mentions one 'magnetic direction indicator'

Of which we have two... The basic mechanical one and one that is very electro-mechanical...

Can anyone add clarification?

Look at the pictures in my gallery.  I have a vertical compass attached to the steel tube.  I am using an Ovation glare shield in my F, and simply took out the Ovation compass and re-fiberglassed

the center piece so that it is flat like the glare shield.  Pictures of this put together will come soon.

OOPS:

I thought there was a good picture of the compass but there is not.  I will post some after I am next at the hangar.
