rbuck Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Well, the end of the year is coming up. I'm just curious, how much do most Mooney pilots fly each year? I know that a busy GA pilot flies 100hrs/year, and I'll finish the year with about 120. How much do you all get to fly? Quote
Guest Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 120-130 between my two airplanes. Hope to improve that when the Mite flies. Clarence Quote
bonal Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Don't know about this year but over the past few between 50 and 75 per year not as much as I'd like for shure and with the weather we're having this month seems like I will not be doing much in the near future. See dealing with our addiction. The big bad storm is headed our way and I'm starting to see lots of yellow on my Foreflight. Quote
FloridaMan Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 I seem to be flying about 200 per year, though I've flown more than 100 hrs since August this year. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 I've owned a Mooney sense 1984. My busiest year was 475 hours my slowest was about 50. For the twenty years that I was commuting with the Mooney I flew about 150/yr. The last two have been about 100. I go to Portland, OR (KHIO) a lot. I fly the Mooney about 1 out of 4 trips and one vacation to New Orleans, so not a lot of flights, but they are all long trips. I don't miss flying it every day, that got to be old. It took the joy out of flying. Quote
TWinter Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Going to end up with about 85+/- . Would have like to had more.. Business and work pay for the plane/flying so I guess for now I will have to keep priorities in that order. Quote
BigTex Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Sadly not nearly enough. This is the year of the Squawk. I seem to average 1 hour of flight for every 8 hours of maintenance. Good news is that I'm squawk free and ready go a much more flight filled 2015. Quote
DrBill Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Normally I fly about 100hrs/ year but since I had these medical issues started last October and I have to have a licensed pilot in the right seat, this year has been a bit lean with only 20 hrs. Mostly short flights for IFR currency. The longest was 2 hrs each way to KSSI for the AOPA fly-in. Saturday I'm flying a dog to Danville VA but that will only be about 3 hrs. Yesterday I took my A&P on a trip to check an oil leak (he fixed) and let him land it twice from the right seat. I should get my medical back in February according to my AME. BILL Quote
David Mazer Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 My flying seems to be very variable. I'm on about 150 hrs/yr rate right now. It has been as high as 250 and as low as 50 depending on life and airplane stuff. Quote
cliffy Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 110 to 130/ yr for 14 years All pleasure no business Quote
mikesalman Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 I'm probably the worst @ 17.8 hours in 2014 & 38 in 2013 Quote
laytonl Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Around 150 hours this year. Lee Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 This year about 70 hours Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Quote
Bob_Belville Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 I am @ 82 so far. Trips to KCSG, KERV, KIWI/KLCI, 6B6, KECP, KSSI account for most of the hours. Quote
MooneyBob Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 160 hrs so far this year. But I have some longer trips planned befor the year ends. Quote
Andy95W Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 40-50 Mooney hours/year, about 700 total. Quote
Bravoman Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 About 80 hrs in the mooney since I got it out of annual/prebuy in feb. about 70 hrs in my toga this year. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 In the 6 years I've owned the Mooney the most I've flown was 220 and the least was 135. I'll be squeezing another 12-15 out of her before the end of the year with a trip to Colorado along with some regional flights. Quote
DaV8or Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 I have to assume that you 100 hr plus guys must have significant others that like to fly and are willing to put up with the potential delays and discomfort. They must also must be OK with joint funds going towards the expense. I pretty much just bore holes by myself and pay for it myself. I like it, I really do! It's a really expensive, complicated and stupid hobby, but I love it. For now. About 50 hours a year, or so. That's all I can manage with work, family, friends and other commitments. I hope for the hours to go up in retirement, but I fear the gas bills on an income of... ??? 1 Quote
rainman Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 450 in three years of ownership of my 231. I highly recommend retirement to improve time available to fly. Down time for panel improvements, new interior, reseal on the tanks, new cylinder work, autopilot repair, etc have really interrupted my fun.....money is the next issue...oh well, I do get to fly a Mooney. Cody Stallings Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 250-300...... Most of it being biz. Quote
1964-M20E Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 I have averaged about 70 to 80 a year since I have owned my Mooney. I'm also getting some helicopter time in as well. Prior to that it was about 3 to 4 hours a year but that includes a 15 year strech when I did not fly. Quote
47U Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Pre Mooney (24 yrs) 22 hrs/yr. Post Mooney (6 yrs) 65 hrs/yr. But, if I subtract the 23 months cumulative down time in maintenance, I'm up to 95 glorious Mooney hrs/yr. Instrument training contributed a fair chunk of that. The CA/TX/IA trip last July was another big chunk of flying. Now, keeping IFR current is a great excuse to go fly! Quote
