A few thoughts...

(1) 100 gallons is a nice option, specially if your burn rate is 15gph....

(2) a reseal, done right, lasts until you sell the plane, a long time from now...

(3) check you W&B, can you load all 100gal with your typical payload? My M20C w/52 gal and two people aboard was near full up.

Best regards,

Usually it's just me, if I loaded 100 gallons I would have about 300 pounds left which works just fine. I'm about 160 but that would really limit who I can bring with me.

Let me just ask out of ignorance about fuel tank options for my 1979 231. I have a small leak on the left tank only when it's full. I'm considering a complete reseal since it's been repaired a few times. Can I have a long range option added to my 72 gal useful at the time of the reseal? Ray

I know Maxwell has installed the Monroy LR "tanks" at his shop in the past, but I'm not sure if he is still doing that work. It is likely less painful than stripping and re-sealing, and it involves sheet metal work to add the new caps and hardware and maybe another access panel.

Rainman, you should be able to add the Monroy STC at the same time as your reseal if you opt to go that route.

How much do you think the tanks cost installed? I see at the monroy site that the STC itself is $3k but how much the install?

Yes you can. Most shops will give you a better price than done separately. Call for quotes. Wet-wingologist have done several of these bundle jobs.

Install labor is between 60 to 65 man-hours or about two weeks downtime to allow for sealant curing.

Dave, Your choice will be a tough one. Maybe this info will help. Check out Willmar Air Service's web site at http://www.willmarairservice.com/tank.php . Also check page #11 of the picture gallery on Mooneyspace site for Paul Becks pic. He is or was the employee for Willmar that did the tank reseals and developed the process. I think he is an independent contractor that works in conjuction with them at or next to their place. As far as Willmar Air, they are great people, a service center, and know Mooneys. Good luck on your choice.
