Merry Christmas! My wife and I want to fly to New Orleans to visit the WW 2 Museum. Has anyone flown into Lake Front airport there? Any suggestion on what FBO I should use? Is there a more convenient airport than Lake Front?

Thanks!

I was treated very well by Flightline First at KNEW a couple of years ago. If you land south at night you will be over the lake which is a huge black hole so I'd recommend the instrument approach.

I've been there dozens of times.  Flight line first is by far the best choice.  Also, Messina's Runway Cafe in the old Art Deco terminal Bldg is a great place to eat lunch.  I have other dining suggestions if you're interested...

Thanks for your post. I appreciate it! Thanks for the heads up on the lake. With ForeFlight I file everywhere I go now. Have a great weekend.

KNEW is your best bet. Find a place to stay within walking distance of the museum so that you don’t have to mess with a rental car. Flight Line can arrange transportation for you.

Yeah, +1 on Flightline, Messina's, and the terminal.

When we visited the WW2 Museum in early March 2020 (immediately pre-Covid), my wife found some early-bird offer on TripAdvisor which for a modest charge gave us early and guided access to the museum.  Dunno if it's still offered, but if it is, I'd recommend booking it. We stayed at the Higgins Hotel, which is Hilton-affiliated should you have HIlton points.  It is basically across the street from the Museum. Also recommended.

As for restaurants, I've twice had what i'd rank as top-10 dining experiences at Peche Seafood Grill in the Warehouse district.

FWIW I was a bit disappointed with that museum. I like to look at artifacts. This museum is light on artifacts and heavy on stories.

I also like artifacts but its real hard to beat a great story. If I end up not liking the museum it gives me a good a good excuse to put 8 hours on my bird. Happy New Year!

Thanks for the suggestions we are staying at the Higgins. I am guessing parking might be a real challenge, with that in mind Ubering from Lake Front to the Higgins is probably the way to go. Happy New Year!
