Can anyone explain why Mooney put the starter solenoid on the inside, close to the firewall? What a PITA to get out. I’m looking into reinstalling on the firewall in the engine compartment. Thoughts?

Huh, my F has the SS attached to the firewall behind the #4 cylinder.  Do all Js have them in the cockpit? Maybe provide a little protection?

My 1982 K model service manual says the starter solenoid can be either in the footwell or in the engine compartment on the other side of the firewall.  Ours is inside the footwell.

It's a bit of a pain to access but not too bad.  Much easier with the copilot seat removed so you can lay flat on the floor.  I wouldn't think it's worth relocating it.

Where’s your voltage regulator?

I have two, and both are mounted on the bottom of the radio stack in the copilot's footwell.

Mine is located on an aluminum plate against the inside firewall, about six inches down from the glare shield. It’s a long reach to get to, and can barely see or get to any of the mounting screws. You can’t get to it from the co-pilot footwell.

Interesting, both my SR and VR are easily accessible (if you remove the copilot seat).
