Joe Larussa Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 Can anyone explain why Mooney put the starter solenoid on the inside, close to the firewall? What a PITA to get out. I’m looking into reinstalling on the firewall in the engine compartment. Thoughts? Quote

Maybe provide a little protection? Quote
ArtVandelay Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 The Js IPC shows both the starter relay and voltage regulator on the firewall but mine has them in the copilots footwell. I would guess it provides better protection. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 It is easy to get to if you remove the right radio rack. Quote
Z W Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 My 1982 K model service manual says the starter solenoid can be either in the footwell or in the engine compartment on the other side of the firewall. Ours is inside the footwell. It's a bit of a pain to access but not too bad. Much easier with the copilot seat removed so you can lay flat on the floor. I wouldn't think it's worth relocating it. Z W Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 I have two, and both are mounted on the bottom of the radio stack in the copilot's footwell. Quote

Mine is located on an aluminum plate against the inside firewall, about six inches down from the glare shield. It’s a long reach to get to, and can barely see or get to any of the mounting screws. You can’t get to it from the co-pilot footwell. Quote

Interesting, both my SR and VR are easily accessible (if you remove the copilot seat). Quote
