It gave me a good chuckle, so I figured I would throw it out to the group. Maybe someone knows why it's their preference.

I was flying into Ocala, FL KOCF yesterday from the North. The active RWY was 18, so my flight path was lined up perfectly for a straight in to RWY 18. I started listening to Tower, with no activity. I made my call previous to Delta entry, he asked where I was, etc. Seemed like they did not have radar. After 2 transmissions of him trying to find me, I said, I'm 8 mile final for 18.

He said, sort of in a way that I should know this, "you can't just fly straight in". Ok.... what would you like me to do? Give you a juke? "Enter Right base for 18". Wilco.

And so this is what he got. No traffic, no conflicts... let's just add a juke.

Way weird!

I get cleared by tower straight-in all the time at my home field (POC) when approaching from the east (winds are nearly always westerly)

Weird.  Our delta controllers have no issues and indeed assign them frequently. I have basically made a 100nm + straight in  from Bridgeport WV to KHGR RNWY 9.  Did not turn more than a few degrees after tight turn departing the pattern.

You can do most of it below 10000ft, however the for the rollins pass, right by FOOOT, you'll need to climb up to 12500 probably for about 5 to 10 minutes. the majority of the flight can be done at 7500 and 8500, and once you pass grand junction you'll need to climb to around 9000 to 10000 ft. PM me if you want more details. This is one of my usual flights, so I do it fairly often.

I’m no expert, but I preferred a more southern route, highest terrain is somewhere around 8500’, and I think generally has better weather.
