I am about to have to buy a new battery for my E model and have been looking at different Concordes. The 25 has 22 amp hours and 225 CCA. The 35 has 29 amp hours and 390 CCA. I do not do any hard IFR I only will fly over the top of a layer and am wondering which battery I need. Anybody with current input? I have an original starter not a lightweight starter

Mooney aircraft use a 35 series battery (12 volt).  You cannot use a 25.  I would never put a wet cell battery in an airplane.   Just my opinion...

Oops. My mistake. I thought it was saying I could use the 25 in place or the 35. I stand corrected before I made a big mistake. Thanks for gently correcting me

I heard from someone recently that it was taking months to get a new concord....

Let us know...

I ordered mine in December. Spruce had it in stick. 14V, extra capacity.

I heard a wise old man once who said anything more than a mouthful is wasted.

Never forgot that.   Haven't always observed it, though.

EarthX LiFePo4 is certified for Mooney now. I see no reason to buy ancient technology any more.

I'll wait till a few people post that they have had them for 6 or 7 years and they are still going strong.

I looked at their website, and they sure enough have actual STC (not just tso) paperwork on there now.  The AML includes the Mooney models listed.

how do you think it got approved with the limited number of amp hours it provides compared to the original lead batteries?

Good question. But the CAR 3 requirement is pretty loose.

3.682 Batteries. When an item of electrical equipment which is essential to the safe operation of the airplane is installed, the battery required shall have sufficient capacity to supply the electrical power necessary for dependable operation of the connected electrical equipment.

With all the avionics we have now, I'm with @GeeBee, get the largest you can.

Atlee Dodge has STCs to install Odyssey batteries in some Cessna products.  I’ve had these for years in my RV4 and now 7 with no issues and they’re affordable.

An important thing to mention when discussing batteries and Mooneys…

1) Amp hours is really important for flight in IMC…. As is battery capacity checks…

2) Weight of the battery is important for WnB….

3) Some batteries are mounted in front of the firewall…

4) Others are mounted in the tail…

5) Experience is everything… Gill wet cell batteries only make it into year two. Concorde gel cells go six.

6) Gill came out with a gel cell battery years ago… there are few MSers that have one long enough to post an early pirep…

7) Many Mooneys will have a small challenge if a lighter battery gets used… paying attention to the updated WnB is important…

Sooooo….

If you go with one of these new funky batteries… get ready to post a pirep with actual WnB benefits… then capacity check numbers as the years go on…

Really cool if you have a Long Body… a lighter battery, with more AH, that lasts six years… this could allow for having both AC and a FIKI system at the same time…!

Go UL!

Too bad there wasn’t a simple answer for this…   :)

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic…

Best regards,

Guess I will be old and traditional and go with the Concorde but I will be anxious to read somebody else’s experience with the new technology batteries . I had gill when I had brand C aircraft and am familiar with them so I will go Concorde and not look back same as the plane had when I bought it
