  1. We had a couple of ladies that had started walking at our airport and had one plane do 2 go-arounds. They thought he was flirting with them and that it was cute. After speaking to them and telling them what was going on , IE they were hard to see and the plane was trying to land and how dangerous it was they understood and quit walking the runway so this story at least has a happy ending
  2. For anybody looking to fly into Searcy, ark KSRC the airport will have a $50 ramp fee for all planes and will not wave any fees for fuel purchase. They also will not have any additional services for transients and there is no taxi services there and the crew car availability is suspect. Fuel there is also one of the highest places in the state for a non controlled airport so always call ahead so you don’t get blindsided by some unexpected small town fees
  3. You can also get the tub o towels at Harbor Freight if you want them immediately
  4. Spray around the puckand after letting it set hit the hydraulic fitting with an air nozzle and maybe you can pop the puck out
  5. If those Mooneys are hooked up does that mean that there might be a mite in about 9 monthes :-)
  6. I am recovering from the same donor stem cell transplant so I understand you completely. Prayers are for her complete and speedy recovery
  7. Welcome aboard use a Mooney knowledgeable shop for the pre buy i believe you can find a pre buy checklist on this site really have the mechanics look for corrosion Avionics are more expensive to buy and have installed than pay for already installed regular flight time is desirable for engine health ( no long dormant periods on the engine) Insurance will be expensive at first so figure that into your costs other guys on this site are a wealth of knowledge so ask and learn there are no stupid questions only stupid answers so don’t be afraid to ask questions enjoy your experience. :-)
  8. All of our flight plans are filed thru company and these last minute changes happen regularly , also we get redirected in flight by company to divert usually due to a last minute change such as a canceled flight or a mechanical. The company has a direct line to center and I have been told within 50 nm of my destination by center that company wants me to divert so I have to slow down and call company for verification( if sufficient fuel Remains to divert) these redirects can happen to us at any time from sitting in the fbo to as late as we will accept it
  9. When I had my voltage regulator replaced my mechanic built a heat sink/ stand-off to bolt to the firewall with the original bolt pattern then the regulator bolted to the heat sink. If I ever need to replace the regulator again I will only have to remove the top cowl and as an added bonus my voltage regulator has air flow all of the way around it to try to help keep it cooler. And if the footprint of the bolt pattern changes it will only change on the heat sink
  10. I cleaned mine with a magic eraser. If it doesn’t work for you well, no harm done and you can still strip and polish
  11. I fly for a major fractional. It is operational procedure for us to be assigned a trip and we go out prep the plane and load the flight plan after receiving the clearance. Before we depart the flight entirely changes and dispatch files another flight plan. So now we go to pick up the NEW flight plan and clearance is fuzzed up at us because of the change. I have also personally seen at KTEB where I was cleared via then as filed and asked for a fix by fix verification and found the route assigned was different than the route filed that was printed on my flight release.when I queried clnc about this they were not happy shall we say. This difference precipitated a phone call to company and an ASAP being filed for informational purposes.
  12. I agree with Hank. When I had to go with a set of glasses my guy had me measure to my dash and set the glasses up to focus there. And he set the heights of the bifocal so that the lens transition was at the line between the instrument panel and the pad. Makes for a pretty seamless experience for me but your mileage may vary
  13. Spoke with the holder of the photo. He said it was 3 monthes old and the plane left within the last 3 monthes since he was there this weekend and it had left
  14. All I know is I was shown a pic this week from a guy that had just flown from there a couple hours before and he told me that was the tail number. Maybe he was mistaken on the number but that is what it looked like to me maybe it was something very similar of an N number since the photo was grainey
  15. I was shown a photo this week of a nice looking J sitting at trigger gap arkansas without an engine or prop off on the side of the grass runway. Was told it had been there for over a year. 888DF. Anybody know what happened? Hate to see it sit around like that
  16. I personally would finish my private on the training aircraft ( no need to abuse your plane learning to fly) and then start flying your plane but check on insurance prices. There will be a substantial decrease in the insurance when you get an instrument rating and continue decreasing as you get more time in complex aircraft. That said it is a wonderful plane and I’m sure it will be a source of pride for you. You can pull the engine back and fly slow( building hours not mph) for low fuel burns or sped up and have a trip aircraft. I’m sure others here can jump in and tell you what I for got or how they think differently than me
  17. I saw on Facebook today where a Mooney owner had received his Trutrak today. I guess maybe there is some movement by Bendix King for the owners that might be willing to install one of their units that hadn’t given up and chosen an alternate option for an autopilot. Seems like too little too late
  18. Yes Mooney did sell a few of the twin ercoupes that had already been built before they took possession of the business. one of my old buddies used to own ( to the best of our knowledge and research) the last twin tailed ercoupe .It carried 2 data plates.
  19. Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t want to cause any damage out of ignorance
  20. I just don’t know which tach I should follow. The old one that has been followed for decades or the newer more accurate one to more accurately comply with the prop restrictions
  21. I have the original tach in my bird. Should I abide by the limits on the tach as displayed as has been done in the past or follow the guidance of the portable digital tach that I sometimes use? The tachs have about a 100 RPM difference at 2350 where the original tach reads slower than the digital tach
  22. Thanks guys i appreciate the quick responses to my questions. Again mooneyspace to the rescue!!!!
  23. Was at a shop today and was looking at a 252 and saw a fitting on the pilots side wing right at the front of the wing about an inch from the fuselage. This fitting could be pushed up about an eighth of an inch like a quick drain. When I looked inside of the panel I could see wires and the pitot tube going to the cabin. What is this fitting? Is it a pitot drain?
  24. I just carry a couple of old washed out water bottles in the back and when I need to add oil on the road I cut the bottom out of one of the bottles. The water bottle opening fits nicely into the oil fill tube. When I am done I throw away the water bottle along with the oil container. Don’t need to do it very often but it makes a nice funnel that is easily disposable and if you want to keep another plastic bag with paper towels and spare ziploc baggies you could wipe it and have temporary storage til an acceptable trash can shows up
