Wage rate up to $150 (down here) or temp down to -10c up there?

I don’t mind the temps or snow, I’d have to adjust to tornadoes and hurricanes though.

They are infrequent, maybe once a year of one or the other. Cold in Canada comes for a couple hundred days a year . . . .

Come to the desert southwest.   No significant blizzards, tornadoes, hurricanes, or earthquakes.   If you really want snow and cold it's just a two-hour drive away in the winter.

Have you seen them for less anywhere else? That’s what Spruce was selling them for back when I bought mine from Herber for under $100.

Ross -

I didn't say that I have found them any less expensive.  I was just giving current prices.  I have been surprised at the rate of increase.

I wasn’t saying you did. I was genuinely asking.

My wife wouldn’t go to the southwestern parts, she insists that all animals must have legs and feet!

People are always afraid of our animals, but not once in my 66 years has one attacked me. And I have spent more time in the desert than most.

The one thing we have very little of is mosquitos. I’ll take all the snakes, tarantulas, coyotes and scorpions over mosquitos any day.

Nailed by a scorpion in Phoenix.  Chicken-$#!t bastard attacked me in my sleep.  One of the transparent ones.  Not fun.

It’s an unfounded fear, but it fear none the less.  I dare not tell her there could be some in Ontario.

Knocking on wood, I’ve never had scorpions. I could say it is clean living and pure thoughts, but seriously, it can’t be that.

Bark scorpion.   They're the only ones that climb things (trees, walls, beds), and they're one of the only ones that have a nasty sting.   It's also mostly what we have here.

Most cats are immune to them so if you have a cat they can keep your house reasonably scorpion-free, or let you know when they're around.

Hmm, not immune according to Pet Poison Helpline:

"Cats, like most animals and humans, are not immune to scorpion stings or venom. Cats do have fast reflexes and may be quick enough not to be stung. But in the case that your cat gets stung by a scorpion, go to the vet clinic immediately."

So, people from other places fear the animals here in Arizona. The animals will not hurt you, but we have the meanest plants you will ever find. Not just the cactus, we have trees with atomically sharp thorns that you can hammer into a piece of oak. We have bushes that will slice your skin like a razor.

Early after moving back to AZ after grad school our cat vet, who specialized in cats, explained that nobody really knows what's up, but it's very rare that anybody ever brings in a cat with a scorpion sting.    My cat used to find them in the house and then guard them until I'd scoop them up and put them outside.   I noticed once during one of these incidents that she had her face down by the scorpion just sniffing it and it stung her right in the nose.   She didn't even flinch, and never had any adverse effects.   For twenty years she'd find and guard scorpions like that and never had any sort of issue.

I had a ferret that got stung once and he spent a night at the vet after getting antivenin.   Very different responses between him and the cat.

Digging up an old thread.

Last April I ordered a set of shock disks for my J from AirPower.  I didn't need them right away and they verbally quoted an August delivery.  I just received them today, Mfg date 7/14/23.  The price from Air Power was 166 ea including shipping, that's 1825 for a set shipped.  Aircraft Spruce has them in stock at 2420 plus shipping.

Just another data point.

Ordered mine from AirPower in early July and just got them (Aug 16) as well. Same price at 166/disc. If you want them now, you pay more. If you’re open to wait, you save some. I was open to wait
