I will be going to a wedding in Lake Geneva WI the last weekend in August. Having not spent any time in that region I wondered if people could recommend sites to see and places to visit?  I’m thinking Mackinac Island but don’t know what else.

I definitely prefer Mackinac island, but it depends what you’re looking for.  Mackinac island is a bit more “genteel”.

The Apostle islands are a nice visit as would be Door county in NE WI. Traverse City has some nice sights on the Water and isn’t too far from Lk. Mich. sand dunes. They have some wineries west of TVC close to Lk. Mich. too.

Just some ideas…

Depends on what you are looking for...

KSJX airport looks awesome.  The courtesy car, a beater van, needed to be jump-started.  You drive in the wilderness and the city center is the size of a subdivision.  We found a nice restaurant downtown and took pictures of the historic buildings where Mormons had settled back in the day.  It truly was a great adventure.

Mackinac island is a motor-free zone (except for the planes and boats).  They have horse carriages that can pick you up from the island airport.  My kids loved that.  There are more shops and touristy attractions downtown (butterfly museum, many fudge stores, vintage clothing photography - I dressed up like Jesse James), etc.  There is no fuel on Mackinac Island.  I don't remember if they had any on Beaver.
