Anybody know of any source other than Lasar and Premier for a fuel dial? Both are out of stock.

If they are out of stock, it means that Mooney is out of stock. LASAR drop ships from Mooney if Mooney has the part in stock. Maxwell may stock them.

Yes, try Maxwell. Unfortunately the manufacturer will only sell them to Mooney, so we're forced to go thru the MSC network. Don might have some on a shelf if you're lucky.

It appears to be a Rochester part. You can find ones that will fit and work, but the markings are wrong. A mooney custom part. You can probably get a similar custom part made, if you want to pay the NRE and buy a minimum quantity. It would probably cost $10,000 to $20, 000 to get a lot of them.

If you want to get into the PMA business, you can do it. How many do you think you can sell a year? 10 or 20? At 100 each you will get your money back in a few years.

If the guts are the same as the Rochester unit, why not buy one and have the face re-screened to match his current one? Or even swap faces with it? Either way would get a single functional unit with correct markings into the OP's wing.

The capsule is a sealed plastic part. It would be difficult to take it apart, remark it and put it back together without completely destroying it.

I sent a message to Don, although I'm not too hopeful.

Is the clear part just clouded over or does the gauge not function? A polishing compound will make the clear face cover look new.

you might try Paul Beck at weep no more. He puts a lot of these in for people when they redo their tanks and just may have a few on the shelf, and since he also is a principal at Oasis Aero, a MSC, he would have had access to them without having to buy a rochester unit and marking up the face

I was looking for these 2 weeks ago and was able to find only one. Called Rochester and they said Only Mooney can buy them. After speaking with several shops what i found was Mooney does not want sell just the dial anymore. One guy said you have to send the entire unit and have it overhauled/calibrated and then they can provide/install a new dial.

One Mooney Service Center said that Air Parts of Lockhaven does that. I called and i think he said was $178 per side to do.,

$178 per gauge is not bad. What is bad is the time and labor to R&R them. You have to remove a cover plate from your tank. Then remove the sender from the cover plate. Then re-install it when it gets back. That's like 8 hours of shop labor and $100 worth of supplies. Besides it will degrade the paint job around that cover plate.

I can replace the capsule in about 15 minutes.

Mooneyspace should buy some gauges, send them in for overhaul. When they come back, pop the capsule out and put it in your plane. Then pass the gauge to the next guy who needs a capsule.

These things are just glued in with RTV. Apparently, after many years it’s not all that uncommon for them to come loose and depart the wing. I wonder if it might not be a good idea to re-glue them if the have been in place for a long time?

I too had one depart over Ohio somewhere, if you find it, please send back to me.  The issue is water gets behind the seal and then at freezing altitude pops off.  When I reglued the new one, made sure to seal properly.  Gave me a startle as when I looked out that side, looked like there was a big hole in the wing.

I am highly doubtful Mooney will order more.......we are going to be on our own for these parts and I suspect a lot more as time goes on.  I have found the gauge online, or at least something that looks the same for like $11.29 each, I need/want to replace the one on the other side as it is really cloudy.  I am going to order one and see if I can make it work.  will advise.

I think I already know the answer is no, but is there a way you can have the wing gauges with bladders?

If there was a way to physically do it, legally it would Probably work. But I don’t see any real way to make it happen.

OK, they came in.  When I bought a new one 2 years ago, i have a vague recollection of there being ground off tabs.

I will put one in the lathe and see if I can pull/cut it open and apart with an exacto knife.  I have $14 in each of them.  so in the terms of mistakes I have made that have cost me money this one will be cheap. Won't be the first time and won't be the last.
