Why do screws come loose? Vibration coupled with insufficient torque. How can you get insufficient torque? Give the screws a twist every so often. The gasket will compress a little more each time until eventually it looses resiliency. Same thing with hose clamps. Sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone. :)

I know some will have this on immediate mental recall....so what is the proper torque for Lycoming Rocker Box screws?

You're saying that instead of a giving MS participants easy access to non-controversial information, let's make them hunt for it or start a new thread.  I don't get it.

I can see that.

As tight as you can get it with an oily plastic screwdriver.

Are we talking white knuckle or break wind tight?

Hmm, I've never had a problem with rocker box leaks in over three years of ownership, but I now think I know why others do....35 in-lbs is just under 3 ft-lbs, which is NOT much!  I strongly suspect most are waaay overtightened and the cover/gasket distorts and a leak ensues. Followed by MORE tightening to 'stop' the leak.

Silicone with fiberglass

25/27 inch Pounds

The key is fiberglass

it’s three times the cost of non reinforced silicone.

@GEE-BEE

I have been very happy with your baffle kit I bought three years ago. Part of what you sent was a set of blue silicone rocker-box gaskets...which I've not yet needed to install!  Would they be with the fiberglass? (Not sure you've changed materials since then)
