2) Carbon cowl for the Js...

3) Txi for the G1000s

https://www.mooney.com -Jonny getting the message out...

See the Mooney website - carbon cowl is in the works!

I hope they fix it so it doesn't ride up and tilt back out of alignment with the spinner like the original.

The durability should be better, but I don't see how they can cut much weight from the cowl itself simply by changing the material. Aluminum parts are generally lighter than composites. Unless they are changing baffles/oil coolers, hoses, etc as part of the package.

I hope the J cowl has the ram air delete.   And fix the cowl flaps while they're at it.    ;)

how much useful load increase are we talking about.  I didn't think the J cowl weighed that much, but I guess 10lbs or so is substantial if that's the case.

That also changes balance a lot since it is from the nose.

I find my J lands a lot better with weight in the baggage area, so lightening the cowl could help that situation and reduce ballast weight that people may carry for this reason.

My rocket used to be very nose heavy with the big metal McCauley 3 blade that came with the conversion.  I switched to a 4 blade MT prop that is 35lb lighter and that much weight off the far end of the nose totally changed the feel of the airplane as far as balance is concerned.  It now feels nice and nimble, whether hand flying or landing.

Interesting.  On Missile you just trim and plane feels like my E...but better.

I also have a McCauley 3 blade on my J.  I never checked the weight of it vs the original 2 blade.  If I went back through the logs I bet I could find it.  It was installed way before I owned the airplany.  I am going to be putting an MT 3 blade on the RV-10 I'm building, but probably not going to change the Mooney prop if I don't have an absolute need to do so, although I have heard great things about the MT on the Mooney.

I think the missile and the rocket have a very very is similar size, weight and balance.  Mine was also flying very nicely when fully trimmed.  But then when I took so much weight off the nose, it is flying even much more so very nicely.

Not all 3 blade McCauley's are the same.  The one on the rocket conversion came from the Cessna 340/414 just like the engine, and I think it is about 85lb (memory so go easy on me).  Ready in the Cessna setting to absorb 335hp.  So my guess is it it quite a bit more heavy than the smaller 3 blade McCauley on your J ready to absorb 200hp.

I found a record that says my prop weight 71.3 lb, but no record of the original weight.  I imagine it has to be more that the original 2 blade.
