I am buying a Mooney and already have a T hangar for it. Just signed the lease. Tell me the basic things I need to buy to be prepared. A 72” flatscreen and the like are not required items! :D And... Go!

Damn...there was a recent thread about hangar necessities and niceties...and I can't for the life of me find it.  There were photos and some great suggestions, but even scrolling through all the "hangar" search results I can't find it.  Hopefully someone can pull that up, though?

Think about what you're doing in the hangar first. If you're like most new airplane owners, it's shining that bird up.

To do that you'll want a step stool (to reach the top of the tail) and a creeper (for the belly and bottom side of the wing). You'll need a gallon or so of WashWax All and a box of rags.

While you're laying on the creeper under the belly shining it up, it's nice to have some tunes... so get a bluetooth speaker.

The bluetooth speaker... and your phone, iPad, etc. all need to be charged up. So get a power strip with plenty of ports. That will also give you a place to plug in the mini fridge so you can kick back with a cold one and admire your work. Of course a couple of camp chairs are nicer to sit on than the step stool while you drink that beer and admire your freshly shined up Mooney.

Then you'll want some shelves to set the stuff on, so it's not just littering the floor.

And it never ends... The guy in the hangar next to me has been there 35 years. He's got more stuff in his hangar than I have in my house and garage put together.

A fridge, a grill, beer, a couch and a couple recliners. The basics.

I’ll best that with a cedar deck and flower beds.

Practice really hard...

Pay attention very closely...

There is a strategy to all of this...

Rentals lead to ownership...

Tie-downs lead to hangars...

Hangars lead to Hangar Homes...

When you get it right, you go the whole distance...  :)

Search hangar home... some are extra cool.

Remember, both you and your bird will need a place to live...

A tool and storage cabinet with a workbench top.  With a lock.  Stock it with appropriate airplane tools, different from car or bike tools.  If you have electric, a portable air compressor.  Some good mechanic shop lights.

A couch is more comfortable than the chairs, and when you're tired (or get kicked out for spending too much on the plane) you can sleep on the couch.

Oh, and the box of Otterpops on the couch to keep the freezer stocked for those hot days, the TV for when you are tired of looking at the plane, the shelves in the back for your wife to store her stuff, etc... (Convince her that it's just a storage unit that you keep the plane in, then she won't be concerned about the monthly rent!)

Tight fit aren’t they? Looks like you got 6” of clearance for the wings.

This option becomes more available as the other expenses (aka small people) are fully grown, and have left the balance sheet... :)

PP thoughts only, not a financial genius...

Kind of related to this thread....I just took over the previous owner's work in progress.  The loft space will be a small crash pad/apt w/ kitchenette...use will be 95% hanging out and 5% sleeping/overnight.  Also looking for design /layout ideas.  Keeping the bathroom lower level.  Originally wanted 2 rooms but now thinking of a studio style.  Going to install a mini-split for AC and supplemental baseboard electric for the frigid Wisconsin winters.  Thoughts from anyone who has done something like this?  Wondering if anyone has some ideas that haven't occurred to me.  Thanks.

Just the angle of the picture. Hangar is 40' wide so I have 30" clearance on each side.

ArtVandelay carusoam yeah well in this particular client situation him and his wife do not have kids and are building this on their own land with a grass strip. It will be housing his V-Tail Bonanza and his Cherokee 6 in Tx.

What’s the price range (per sqft) of this kind of construction?

But seriously, letting the wife put her new camping rig in the hangar, means she has a whole new appreciation for the space that we pay for. It usually won't be set up, but it was nice to be able to put it up to dry and leave it that way for a few days.
