Getting closer!!

In addition, I plumbed the BI805 valve. Very easy install. Now it just needs to go to avionics to hook up the ACCUTRAK computer.

OK, I know its done already, and this is harder, but maybe this will help the next guy:  Drill the EGT probes on the inside at 45 degrees - then the probes won't get bent and broken, and the wires can follow the CHT wires and oil primer lines.  Much cleaner installation.

It looks like you're doing a great job Matt! When I installed my 830 it took me about 40 hours including the removal of the previous (UBG16) monitor. I also had to weld up the previous exh probe holes as they were way too close to the heads. If you put the OAT probe in the wing that takes a bit of time too for wiring.

Though a shop may have done the install in less time, in the end I knew exactly what I had and that there were no undesirable shortcuts. You too will feel this way soon.

Here's my tip... route the egt/cht probes as far as possible from the ignition leads as the readings will be a bit jumpy if they get close to each other (even though all are shielded).

The accutrak wiring isn't any more complicated than the engine monitor.   Take a look at the manual. Power, a pair of wires to the 805 valve and a pair to each nav source. As long as you have an IA who will sign the 337.

Although it is the easiest place to install it, most will be dissatisfied with the loss of accuracy doing so since it's too close to the engine and exhaust. Notice were your OEM OAT probe is installed in order to be accurate. It gets undisturbed air out on the wing.

Mine is in my windshield. I was thinking of putting it in the naca vent on the left side.

Put it under the wing in the first inspection panel outboard of the gear. That is where Mooney put it starting with the J, and it is away from the sun and engine compartment...and thus most accurate. It isn't hard to route the wires. Don't put it in the vent opening!

I would estimate its 2-3 degrees off (high), the probe is a lot bigger than the factory probe. Mine is on the pilot side away from the exhaust.

With someone who has done a few of these, it is probably a ~30 hour install.  After all, I could change a head gasket in my old truck in about 30 minutes. However; Since I am doing it, it will probably be closer to 50.  I move kind of slow and methodical.  I screw things up and have to redo some things. I'm a tactile learner.   It's part of my learning process.  Since this is how I learn so I tend to be a little slow on the project.  That being said, I spend a considerable amount of time planning the best place to put things.

I am very blessed to have an awesome I/A who is willing to help, teach and sign-off my work.  

Here I am working on the template for the new breaker / ACCUTRAK panel.  Call it panel design 1.0.

I like that idea but I don't have a 90° drill.  It WOULD make a nice, clean installation.  Live and learn.  Of course, if I had done that, it wouldn't match the factory probe and what little OCD I possess would not allow that. :)

Another vote here for under-wing installation. I put mine in the same location as the factory installation but under the opposite wing. The original probe location has a Davtron OAT/voltage gauge there. It's nice to have F. displayed on one and C. on the JPI. Also nice when they cross-check the same.

The typical shop installation would place it in the naca vent but for another 1-1.5 hours you can put it in the wing where it belongs.

I installed mine solo during last year's annual under my IA's supervision. You need to be detail oriented and comfortable with detailed wiring but it's not rocket science. It's not an EASY task working between the firewall and panel; just take your time.

As I mentioned before I spent about 40 hours doing what an experienced installer could have likely done in 30. I'm happy to help if I can offer any advice of value.

I am getting closer! 

All the CHT/EGT probes, Oil temp, two of three pressure transducers, OAT (in the wing) and tach installed.

Tomorrow I am slated for finishing the fuel pressure transducer and installing the FF transducer.  I will also be connecting the GPS in and out.  Depending on time, the ACCUTRAK will be hooked up as well :)

Putting the OAT in the wing required disassembly of the left interior side panels, but the extra effort was well worth it!  

Very tedious work today.  Not hard, just tedious.

For those that will maybe do this in the future:

1.  Drill the EGT on the inside at a 45 as another poster suggested.  It will be somewhat more difficult, but would be cleaner.

2.  You will need a MOLEX crimper for the transducers.

So far, outside of that, just basic tools are needed.

New skill learned:  Making new fuel lines!  Good stuff!

Wired up the nav sources for the Edm and ACCUTRAK. Only fuel level, fuel flow, amps, ground and power to hook up.

Here is the ACCUTRAK harness all ready to go! It got wired to the switch so nav 1 on the ACCUTRAK will follow either #1 nav or GPS. Nav 2 will stay reserved for now.

You will KNOW when it's the right plane!
