My parrot's second time to Oshkosh. First time with Caravan. We had a blast! Sorry no video. The gopros overheated and shutdown before we even took off. Flew with the Caravan into OSH and flew as a flight of 4 (3 if you don't count the bird) going back out.

Long body, Mid body, short body, Bird body! Looks like Mike and the Mrs. had a good time. Ya'll be careful now!

This is the story.  Mike asked us to form an element of two to head East from Oshkosh.  I agreed.  Then we discovered that SLED (Adam Carney) wanted to join us as well.  I asked Adam to lead and he said he wanted wing time - so I was guy to lead from the takeoff roll.  We followed the published departure procedure and eventually got hold of Green Bay to let them know what we were doing - crossing Lake Michigan at a narrow(er) crossing at 11,000' so we had gliding distance to one of the shorelines.

Mike was at gross so he was sucked (behind) for a good part of the initial flight.  Then SLED suggested that he take the lead - to allow him to set the pace.  Good idea. 

Here is Mike (201er) in the Number 3 slot as we cross Lake Winnebago north of Oshkosh headed for Lake Michigan.  

Here is Mike taking the lead and demonstrating good lead skills.  Note the transition.  Smooth.  Safe.  Also note the size of the "wobble box.'  Amazing how small it can be in smooth air.

Finally on the Michigan side, SLED wanted to lead, so we reformed with him as Lead, Mike as #2 and me as #3.  Over Whitecloud airfield, we executed the planned (and briefed) break to allow each of us to proceed on our way home.  

Very good looking set of formation evolutions.  Because of the smooth air, we may have looked better than we did in the Caravan.  Oh well, there is always next year.

Great stuff Ned! It's the kind delightful folks like you that makes us look forward to doing the Caravan again next year! The formation flying and the wonderful people are what make it so enjoyable!

 

I was even able to understand what you were saying through that Canadian accent!

Nice flying guys. The churning of the twenty, thirty or (this year) forty-odd aircraft can really make it bumpy, so "parade" isn't often practical for the Caravan itself.

Glad you guys got some wing time in on the way home. I'm only today heading west to California from NJ, probably the last Caravan bird to roost when I hangar (hopefully) tomorrow.
