can anyone recommend the nearest shop in central California that can reseal my M20E? One tank is so bad I can't use it and the other isn't much better. This aircraft has sat for 4 years befor I got it.

The other option I guess is installing bladders.

Are you capable of flying to the Midwest?

It seems some people will do that flight for a good quality seal job.  It may require a commercial flight to delivery you back and forth while the work is being completed.

let us know if you need info for the Midwest shop...

No, I can only use one tank and I'm afraid to do that. It looks like someone used the wrong sealant. Its soft and  I'm afraid it will contaminate the fuel system.

Have you checked to see if a local A&P will take on the job? Expertise and experience count for a lot, but it's not rocket science. The instructions are straightforward and easy to follow.

Good prep + follow the instructions = resealed tanks.

Worst case scenario is a spot or two may need to be patched or touched up.  No biggie.  Happens to Weep No More all the time.  Reference Don Maxwell's website for easy to follow instructions.

Advanced aircraft in Troutdale Or. Just did mine. $8,500 for an F. Greg. 503. 465-2298.  Greg will pick you up, or deliver you to Portland. For commercial flights.  Kttd.      He completed the work on time, only extras for nut plates.  Lasar just did my annual and mods, then to kttd and now to chino for paint.

+1 on Troutdale.... Gregg did me right when he determined that my plane's tanks needed a good patching, not a full reseal.  Highly recommend.

You might check with Top Gun in Stockton

Top Gun may do small re-patching but not major re-seal work. I had checked with them before I took mine to Troutdale. They are the closest for us on the West coast. As 9514V mentioned, Greg will make it easy for you to get to/fro from Portland Intl.

Maybe patch it yourself good enough that you can fly it where you want to. Its not hard to seal over existing sealant.

I agree that I would never fly with one empty tank. One bad seal in the selector and you have a bad day. Lake Aero had a story of an engine out due to that.

Skinner Aviation at S03 in Ashland, OR can help you.  They have done several reseals recently and offer a full warrenty on the work.  They install bladders as well and did mine this year.  Call Bob Skinner at 541-482-7675 for a quote.  Really nice people.

Hey thanks for all the information. I got the aircraft about 3 months ago and have spent that time getting it airworthy. It sat for four years so it is a big job getting it airworthy. I thought I got a great deal since I only paid two grand for it with 400 hours on a tear down and new prop. So far I'm into it for thirteen grand with the tanks and paint left. Most of the cost so far has been on the power plant. All overhauled accessories and hoses and prop reseal and annual. I thought I was almost done until the tank issues came up.

I think ink at this point I'm going to install bladders and be done with the fuel tank issues. I'm an A&P so the cost should be around seven grand. Paints 15 grand in interior is another three grand. When it's all said and done I'm not sure I got such a good deal.
