I think it's called, "Shepherd One", but that's what Alitalia used.

Correct.

I saw a memo a couple weeks ago for a telephony similar for United that I assume is for transporting him but didn't pay much attention. I can look it up in a couple days if there's real interest.

There is nothing wrong with that, I mean it is an honnor for him and his family to meet the Pope. What does it change for enyone else. I guess Hukababy (my nickname for you know who)  would have liked to be there as well !!!

Why would it be an honour to meet the pope?  He's the head of a global organization with a pretty colourful history, some of it quite awful, even criminal.

He is the Head of State so should receive those honors.  The inquisition reference is funny because the Isam is still fighting those wars and we don't get it.  "to the shores of Tripoli"

They used the call sign "Shepherd One" today on the AAL 777 to New York.  On Flightaware, it was listed at AAL 9240 (something like that) for that flight.  Landed on 13R (shortened).

And how many divisions has the Pope got?

Uh....One big division:  The Eastern Church and the Western Church.  The "two lungs" of the universal Church.

Was meant to be sarcastic, obviously, JPII helped to bring the commies down. Stalin must be rolling in his grave.
