How many times do you check gear down?

Twice. After the lever is switched to the down position and I get 3 greens and on short final when I'm doing my final configuration checks.

Three in the green, is slower and less efficient than one.

Twice. I point to gear indicator and pull down on sleeve to confirm LOCKED. I changed the down pull from a backward pull as a result of Mooneyspace...

Last point/pull is when on short final.

Depends on the approach my target airspeed of 120 sets the routine since many of my destinations are close to mountains and I like flying at as high an AGL as possible many approaches don't permit gear down until short final but when it comes down I call out loud gear down green light on then do the downward pull and confirm locked. Over the numbers repeat out loud again. I still vocalize every phase of flight starting with run up procedures. on longer more luxurious approaches at least 3 times.

Exactly what I said before, Unless you pull to almost idle and bring out the speed breaks, nothing slows you down as much as the gear, so it is one of the hints, if you are too fast, check the gear !!!

1. When lowering the gear: (check down light and green "down" bar on floor) (MSE)

 

2. Landing flow: "gear, gear, flaps, prop"...(Handle down/down light, green down bar on floor, flaps full, prop fwd)

 

3. Short final: check gear/flaps

This thread is going on seven pages and still going! Hopefully by this time the gear is down and has been checked ad nauseum!

I think the ones who've gotten burned because they forgot to put the gear down are paranoid to the point of obsession.

Have a set procedure i.e. checklist, and stick to it. Put the gear down check down and locked and forget it.

I did a quick search of the NTSB database, search for Mooney accidents, there is few and all seem to have inoperative gear warning horns or it's a botch go around
