Hey everyone, I'm a long time lurker of this forum. Finally made an account for an important reason. I've finally decided I want to own a Mooney, specifically an M20J. I've been searching for airplanes over a year trying to decide on which make/model I wanted and there is just something pulling me back to the Mooney brand with its fuel efficient speed. That said, I'm based out of Destin, FL. Anyone Mooney owners nearby? I would love to meet up, pick your brain, and if you are willing let me sit in your bird regardless of model. Looking forward to the adventure of ownership!

I could have written this post; everything you said, including where you are based, applies to me. I mad my decision a year or so ago and have been looking. I think I missed so good deals, but was out of the country at the time (currently out of the country). We should compare notes, once I get back in country.

Welcome to the boards, and good luck with your learning experiences.  Lots of folks fly to Destin, so you should have no problem finding a Mooney to see in person.

I plan on being in Destin with the family in the next month or so. I'd be happy to let you take a look while I'm in town.

That would be great!!! Feel free to PM me when you figure out the details.

My wife lives in Atlanta for her residency (hence the plane) so I'm in that area a lot too.

Thanks to all who offered to help Jordan (BigAirHarper) get an in-person introduction to the M20Js.  He is a great guy.  I have known him for many years.  Wish I was a little closer to Destin so that I could take his Mooney virginity.

Jordan,

My wife and I fly down every so often for lunch at the Back Porch. Just about 1:20 flight for us from Pell City. Probably won't be down for a few weeks with vacation coming, but I'll let you know next time we head that way, if you like.

John,

I would love to meet up when you are down. I'm currently under contract on a house so my focus has been 100% on that. Plane shopping will resume once this deal is over. Mortgages are a nightmare these days....

My wife and I will be down on the 4th. It's a c model but the plane should give you a feel for the pilots seat. We will be going to Henderson park inn. Let me know if you want to meet up.

Jordan,

Oct 2nd KECP will be full of Mooneys. We are having an open house for the Mooney Summit III, no registration needed for the openhouse. Hotdogs, soda's hamburgers etc furnished by Sheltair, a chance to meet about 100 Mooney owners, Mooney specific instructors and subject matter experts. Registration for the Mooney Summit, Oct 1 thru 4 is currently scheduled for July 15th, Abe is busting his tale to get the registration site stood up for that. Thanks Abe! More at www.mooneysummit.com

I'm about 25 minutes north of you. We may fly down to Destin this weekend if I get some work finished up. You could also drive or fly up if we don't come down.

Well I'm finally settled on my house and the hunt for the perfect J model has resumed. I still haven't had a chance to sit in a Mooney yet, will anyone be at KDTS this weekend and be willing to let me check out their bird?

Yea I'm going to try and see if I can make it to the summit. I'm supposed to be flying to Gainesville Friday afternoon. I'll see if I can persuade the crew to make a quick pit stop at ECP to check out some mooneys. I've been looking for a J with a 430 and less than 1000 SMOH. I just hope I love them as much as I think I will once I sit inside one.

Fortunately, the planes are better than the specs.  If you like the specs, you'll love the plane.

Use caution, speed and efficiency can become addictive over years of use. :)

Best regards,

i found this to be very true, in just minutes . . . A few talks with the previous owner, one flight, and I was writing a rather large check and talking to an insurance broker.

hooe to see you at the Summit, Big Air!

My first time up in a Mooney was over 35 years ago, sitting in a child seat in the back. Guess I was hooked, because now I sit in the left seat up front!  B)

Hope the Summit was great! Unfortunately, due to the poor weather Friday, I had to drive down to Gainesville and didn't have the time to stop by the Summit friday. I'll see some of you mooniacs eventually tho!
