For those on a budget, just wanted to report that my Accu-Trak installation went well (with some trouble-shooting) and is traking GPS (GNC 300XL) as stated.  When I installed my inital short flight went well, but transponder was flakey (I had center stack trays moved with install of a KX155)...and then radio (in GNC 300XL)...and then the GPS didn't acquire...All were related to Co-AX.. I think the antenna wasn't hooked up on last as there was "no charge"...so after three fixer flights had plane up and once trimmed at altitude the Accu-Trak does a nice job of holding GPS input course.  This is NOT a bad cost effective option if you have a functioning PC in your plane...

That was my experience with Brittain. I was lucky enough to be within driving distance of KTUL when i took the aircraft there.  They were responsive and a pleasure to deal with. Glad you are back up and flying and it is working well.

So I have a '67 M20C with PC installed what componets would I need to upgrade to autopilot?

What Brittain Accu-Track versions / models were delivered in Mooney's?

I've been on the list for a Brittain Autopilot since February.  I was told about 6-9 months backlog then as I got closer to the 6 months the backlog went to 12 months.  I currently have a PC wing leveler issue and I'm sure it needs an overhaul.  If I overhaul now I will have to overhaul all systems again when I'm up for the autopilot.  So, I've been living with the wing leveler issue.  Brittain may have a good system but if I can't get the service then whats the point.

Chris,

What is the problem with your PC?  It might be something as simple as a line comong loose, or a torn boot.  I have had booth of those issues and once I figured it out, my Mooney has been flying pretty straight and level with just the PC.

I too have been on the list for a while now.  Just purchased an Accu-Trak II control head from ebay. Talked to Jerry before I did it and said that they would take the price off of the system when my turn comes up.

BTW, does anyone have a control shut-off valve for the Accu-Trak II laying around? Thats all that I need to complete my system.

Thanks

Chris:

Are you saying you need the yoke mounted removeable valve?  I have one and would part with it for a reasonable price.  Send me a PM if interested and what you would pay.  Thanks,

Scott

Yes, the basic PC wing leveler is pretty simple, but any ripped boot or leaking/unattached plastic air line will K.O. the system.  Usually pretty easy to trouble shoot by someone that is qualified.  I have some wing boots in great shape (like new too) they come up on e-bay quite often....

I jumped the six month list by buying the Accu-Trak servo's and sending them to Brittain for repair/yellow tag...took two weeks.

I've seem to have one problem after the next the last 3 months and have not had time to look into the PC system.  I've put the other issues as higher priority since the system was coming up for upgrade.  Brittain told me the whole system would be overhauled.  I thought about looking for my own parts.  I've wanting an AccuTrak II and Alt Hold system.

Chris,

The Brittain is really a simple system ot troubleshoot.  If you don't have one buy an Mooney maintenace manual off E bay.  It need not be current as vacuum still work the same way!  The manual has a great section on the PC system and Brittian is willing to send additional manuals by email.  Follow in the procedures in the manual and you should be able to locate and repair your troubles.

I have a B6 in my 66 E model and flew 3:45 at 11,000ft in heading mode with no nav input other than twisting the heading bug, but it flies just as well in PC only.  Vacuum servos are cheap to overhaul and parts are always on E bay.

Anyone got a servo contrl valve handy? In earlier post, I incorrectly stated shut off alve. This would complete my system for AccuTrak II.

  Thanks.

Hi Folks

I have been on the wait list for a Brittain altitude hold system now since a year ago June 2009. They have had a series of upsets at the Brittain operation which has delayed their tooling capabilities. I am told I can expect the system now in October. My wing leveler works fine . Quite like it. I would have preferred an STEC 30  but too costly for my blood. Also though I was informed last week that STEC are now permitting field installations. Anyone here that?

Philp,

There is an STEC-30 system for sale on Ebay for $2350 US.  It came out of his experimental. I am thinking about this one too but not sure if the cost of sending it to STEC to get calibrated for my Mooney would be worth it versus waiting for an Accu-Trak

Good for sellerYell...Me too (glad it is working well).  I would love to have altitude hold, but my trips are generally only a couple of hours, so a little input is good.  My E generally stays within 100 feet once trimmed anyway.

I have seen a couple more since mine went up that looked to be in good shape/good value.

Ok guys, same topic new question.  I have a Brittain B2B that I am thinking of up gradeing to B6 with addition of altitude hold.  But there also is the option of an upgrade to a  B5 system.  Has anyone flown both systems and can state if one is really better than the other.

My only dealings are with the PC Wing Leveler so far. I have my name on the list for an AccuTrak at Brittian.

My PC works really well, so far no complaints!!
