Quick update. I mentioned a group buy with Chris at Penn and he is interested. He said that he will work up numbers for me and contact me with an idea of what an average installation will run. Obviously, prices will vary depending on your particular configuration.

He said that he is in desperate need of 430/530 units. Can't keep them on the shelf and would be willing to consider trade-ins as part of the deal.

I got this back from Sarasota.  They wouldn't even quote it

I am afraid that I have the same news about the 770. I know that they keep talking about , but the release date seems to be a moving target. The latest that we heard was 1st quarter of 14 but we really can’t count on that as the date keeps moving.

Let's see what Chris from Penn comes back with. I would expect to see have Sarasota to have early access due to the volume of stuff they sell. Hope it doesn't turn out to be another Avidyne scenario.

Got an email back from Sarasota today indicating they are waiting on King to give them wiring diagrams and an estimate of install time before they can give me a final quote. What I had gotten previously was a rough estimate. They also said they expected Dec for installs.

Called Bendix King directly who confirmed they are taking pre orders now with delivery scheduled for late Nov. Early Dec. They will get back to me to confirm/deny $1000 end user discount offered thru year end at Oshkosh.

Wass is not a requirement for ADSB. What the ADS-B spec requires is that the output sentence from a ifr certified gps  contains a field that has a integrity check for the gps data. All the newer Wass units have this.  It is possible that King could release software update for some of their older non wass units 89b,90b and KLN94 to meet this requirement.  There are a lot of planes still flying with these boxes and it would make the KT 74 a very attractive option for those owners if they did.

Mike, I pretty sure that the position source for ADSB has to comply with AC  20-138.  Reference AC 20-165

Most all the non wass gps were installed under 20-138 as the STC was only for a single model plane. Its probably a moot point if it has to be wass or not. The requirement is that the data output sentence from the gps contain a integrity and accuracy field. I don't think any of the non wass units currently have this and it is probably unlikely that King would release a new version of software to include this. It would be a very good selling point if they could and would. It would make buying their box a no brainer for anyone who already has a 89b,90b,or 94 and there is a lot of these out there.

The paragraph below came from Trigs website and I found the same language in the ADSB specifications.

"The GPS receiver used must be an IFR certified receiver. Although that GPS is not required to be WAAS capable, that may be a moot point. Many legacy GPS receivers that were designed before ADS-B was planned do not include the necessary calculation of integrity and accuracy that ADS-B needs to operate. It is unlikely that these older devices can be upgraded, and therefore a new GPS receiver would be required. Most new GPS products today are WAAS capable."

At this rate I'd suspect Sun and Fun. I keep checking but no joy yet. Avidyne seems too be having an even worse case.

Apparently BK Honeywell abandoned it because of "broken" software issues they couldn't fix.

Then in a desperate move they went to Aspen who tried to change the software!

Aspen?? when they have plenty of vaporware of their own? What was BK Honeywell thinking?!

They should've gone to Garmin for help from the beginning! They would've been done by now!

BK may have a special dealer relationship with Sarasota giving them first access to the new product and hence, the right to ask that they install it.

As for the Aspens... have I got something brewing for you. A few guys sent me emails asking if I had any videos of my Aspens in action. I made a video of me flying the LPV at KEVY. It is being processed on YouTube. Not my best work (it was a bumpy ride) but it is in high def. Also have a small section on the video dedicated to you and traffic... I will post it in my STEC Malfunction thread..

maurader, can you share the link to your video.

What do you mean?   Garmin IS the engineering department of BK when BK rejected going into the GPS field many years ago.

Very true. Because BK and Garmin are in Olathe KS it was not difficult for Garmin to pull out engineers from BK working on the KSN-770 project. This is most likely one of the reasons for the delay. For a new engineer at BK figuring out the KNS-770 software code is not trivial and takes time. And by the time he figured out Garmin hires him. Would not be surprised if they also recruited engineers from the Avidyne IFD-540 project. By pulling out key engineers you practically weakens or eliminate the competition .Nothing new it happens all the time with other companies.

Just got back from OSH.  Attended the King dinner on Tuesday night.  It was a great cookout except for the rainstorm.  Maybe Garmin arranged for the storm.  Looked over the 770 the next day and was not favorably impressed.  I asked three different sales reps to demo the box and none were able to do it.  Their excuse was that the box was certified only a few days ago.  I hope they get some instruction and practice so they can better demo the box before the show is over.  Price quoted was $12,000 plus install.  I asked about cost and availability of databases and got a blank stare.  King clearly was not prepared to present the 770 on Tuesday or Wednesday hopefully they will get their act together shortly.

I agree. I played with it and I don't like it at all. The software looks much like the Aspen with the menu bars and such from the buttons. Anyways, I don't know who signed off on buttonology, but tapping the screen, then the knob, then the side buttons to insert a waypoint into the flight plan, sucks. It also doesn't contain the airways that go to or from a waypoint. You have to spell FSD then V234 it doesn't show up as you're doing it like the iFD540 and the GTNs. Also the flight plan is displayed on screen so it uses up a third of the map. The BK rep didn't know how to hide it.

Presumably they went to Oshkosh to introduce it. You'd think they'd be prepared to answer some very basic questions!

That confirms what we already know: King doesn't care about GA. They've abandoned us.

Pete you are so Dramatic.....Just like when you abused Ed Kollin , guess what I saw at the Continental booth?????  Continental was releasing the results of the camguard tests.........The KSN770 got certified Friday two days before the show........I don't think they had adequate time to prepare , That being said , they have priced their unit 4000 less than the others......They also have the only other adsb out transponder other than Garmin or Trig , yes I know its a trig rebranded...........You are always quick to trash everything out there ........Would love to see what you would have said 60 years ago when Mooney started making aircraft .........

They "didn't have adequate time to prepare" ? How many years have they been "working" on this?

But of course they didn't prepare! Proves my point. Thanks Alan!

What tests did Continental release Alan?

Care to be more specific?

I don't "abuse" anyone! And I don't trash "everything out there" !

But Alan, I don't care what you call it!

We all benefit from accurate information. Ed Kollin abused himself by being less than honest. Deliberately!

And you know what Alan, nobody has a monopoly on virtue. Not even you nor that small guy in Davie, FL!
