M20C with High fuel pressure

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a 65 m20c and have enjoyed getting to know her. I have developed an issue with high fuel pressure. At my last start I noticed the fuel pressure showing above redline at about 8psi . (It was not that high when I test flew and brought the plane home) Before start, I ran the boost pump and pressure came up to about 5psi which I thought was about right. Since the pressure is showing correct with the boost pump I'm thinking the guage is okay. So, is there an adjustment on the carb for pressure? Other possible areas to look at?

I bought the plane from an airport at about 1k ft. I now have it at 6500ft but I can't think that would cause a difference. And if so, should show on the boost pump also.

I would appreciate any insight or experience you can offer.

Thanx!

I see pressure at or above the red line on my "C" right after start and at idle RPM.  As the throttle is advanced there's more fuel flow and the backpressure decreases so the indicated fuel pressure drops into the green.  Or so I imagine.

With boost pump on for takeoff, at max throttle I scan the instruments and expect to see 4 to 5 psi, which is mid-green.

I don't know what the factory specification limits, if any exist, might say, but that's the norm on my "C" over the past four hundred hours.
