my long term project is moving along nicely. was time to fill the tanks and test the electric pump. throw the switch and just a clunk. it worked 5 yrs ago before my project started.

I quickly talked to some friends and checked the forum. Aero Motors in wisconsin is the place. I woke up crazy early this morning removed the pump and drove over  2 hrs to Aero Motors. Was definitely worth the trip. I turned over my tired hunk of junk and was given a pump that looked like new with all their updates. They knew I was the Curious inquisitive type with a lot of questions so they took me through the shop and showed me the insides of a pump and their improvements. Everything except one particular seal is made in-house in the shop. They even wind their own armatures! I'm the type that likes to shop made in USA. I was thoroughly impressed. my pump happen to be $550 for the exchange.

My project continues forward with a minimal delay, will be installing the pump tomorrow.

Nice,

I had to go the Wheldon route since Aeromotors couldn't do an exchange and I didn't want the downtime. Was significantly more expensive (approx $2500 in AUD). It does sound a lot smoother than the Dukes that came out.

I’m not surprised that you were able to tour the shop. Ole was very generous with his time when I called to inquire about an exchange. He gave me a thorough explanation of how they improved the pump and the operational tests that they’ve conducted. They rebuilt my pump, but the turnaround was only a few days even with shipping. Look forward to seeing your project fly.

I have a Dukes in the RV8 and, while it didn’t have a lot of time on it, (100 hrs) it was about 12 years old.  It’s located inside the cockpit and started leaking, easy to detect.  It turns out you have to have the Dukes pump rebuilt every 10 years.  Sent it to Aeromotors and they turned it around in a day.  I didn’t ask them to rush it or anything, I called to see how long it would take and the gave me the tracking number.  Awesome company!

Instead of starting a new thread I'll post my electric pump questions here if that's ok.

My pump failed to make pressure this weekend. It started up but the needle was just bouncing around the bottom part of the scale. I'm not sure if it was the temperature ~40F or not but I assume if it can't handle this it might be time to replace it.

It almost sounded like something was going through the line...kind of intermittent but never made it into the green.

So I'll be calling Aero Motors today. Not sure which model it is yet, maybe they'll have that info?

It could be a Dukes or a Weldon.  You might want to take off the panel on the belly, roughly below your left foot and take a look.  Did it not build pressure and had zero flow?

I've cleaned the fuel screen before. I remember seeing it and know it's out of date (not that it's any indication under our regs because we replace on condition). I'll go over at lunch and drop the panel and find out what it is.

I like the price at Aero Motors a lot better than Aircraft specialty but Tulsa is a lot closer to me and I have access to another plane to just pop up there and exchange it. ($550 vs $1250).

It made the sound that it was pumping but it acted like it had air in it and surging. I may take a video when I go take the panel off. My fuel pressure gauge goes from 0 to 30. The green arc is 14-30. When I turned the pump on it bounced between about "shivered" around 5-6 PSI and jumped to 10 PSI and then bounced back between 5 and 6.

Anyone wanting to know the part number it's on the data plate. Turns out it's 4140-00-19A. However, there's a typo on mine, they missed a number.
