Comment I often hear is car gas and Avgas prices aren’t related.

However I think they are in that both of course are made from crude oil and therefore the price of crude ought to affect both.

Price of crude is almost down to pre pandemic prices

https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/brent-crude-oil

You need to select the 5 yr tab on the chart to see back to 2019 of course.

It’s $78.80 now, but peaked right at $120 Jun 2022, that’s a big drop.

However there does seem to be a lag in Avgas pricing, it seems most airports price their fuel based off of the price they paid for it, however it seems car gas goes up instantly, whenever there is a jump in crude pricing.

Ouch! Sorry about that! 3.74 at KRFI, 3.99 at KRWV and 3.90 at 4F2. A plethora of gas stops sub 5.00.

I’m at a loss to explain sub $4 in Tx, a National average of $6.20 and over $7 in Ca.

Can you image if there was that much variability in say a gl of milk?

I can understand some of the Ca car gas price, as Ca has a special Ca car gas.

I can’t explain it either. I can only be grateful for it.

Car gas prices state by state tend to differ based on the taxes.

Ran up to the avionics shop doing my work in PA.  30 cents per gallon between MD and PA.

Usually, but California is an outlier, Their gas is honestly different, it really does pollute less but you get less range too.

As it’s a special fuel that’s only made for California it costs more, largely I believe because the supplier can charge more, but whatever it does cost more, although I’d guess it’s taxed higher too.

Tax by State, and yep California takes the win.

Gee, I sure wish CA would use some of the gas tax money to fix the pot holes on my North and Southbound lanes of Highway 101 between Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo!! :(...CalTrans patched a few after our big storms last year, but have neglected beyond that with new one popping up [or should I say in] daily.   I've kinda become familiar to most of their locations, but at night sometimes they catch me by surprise................they just piss me off when I whack one!!!!!

Silly me, I thought those big gas tax funds were to go for such things...........................

Gas tax funding is going down, electric cars don't pay taxes on the gas they don't use.

Also, Kalifornia is busy giving money hand over fist to illegal aliens, and ignoring the citizens from whom the money is taken . . . .

Tesla driver friends tell me that now with their DMV annual renewal fees, our glorious state has imposed an additional $500 fee.

Did I ever mention I LOVE my climate here!!!

some of it is taxes, indiana taxes diff than texas. there's also transportation and storage cost built in.

BUT i'm sure the bulk is just  "Plane" 8)  ol capitalism.

this is actually one of the reasons i'm not comfortable with gami GUL100 until there are competitors.

you know it doesn't cost 5+ dollars more per gallon to get gas into kNEW as iKSGR, it's just profit.

Actually there is - the lowest gallon of milk in the U. S. is $2.46 and the highest is $5.98, well over twice as much

Hawaii makes sense,  almost all goods shipped to the state are a good deal more expensive.   those two eastern states are strange.  everything else is pretty consistent

I hate to say another myth, but it partially is.

Some States you do get a free ride, but those are dropping like flies and those States that tax EV’s often do so in excess of what gas cars pay. It’s been that way for a long time, this Consumer Reports article was written in 2019

would've never guessed Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama would be among the more expensive states

Very often tax is collected for this and that but the tax that’s collected goes into the general fund, that’s spent on what politicians decide to spend it on, not for the purpose it was collected for.

During the Energy crisis in the 70’s I remember thinking my God if it keeps going up it’s going to cost as much as milk does. Since then it’s always seemed when gas and milk cost about the same per gl people weren’t crying about how much gas costs.

People are funny, gas can be we will say 3 a gl, then go up to 5 for awhile, and if it drops back to 4 people are happy. They don’t think but it’s a buck a gl more than it was two years ago, they are just happy it came down. It’s like climbing stairs, you go up two, come down one, but your always going up.

This current glut of oil we are experiencing is only temporary, it’s not come from new wells or new fields or whatever, it’s coming from more efficient extraction of current wells, fracking I assume but as we aren’t drilling new wells or opening new fields it won’t last, but I have no idea how long it will last.

I do think you hit the nail on the head, for whatever reason, maybe it’s just coincidence but it seems just about everything that can be done to drive down energy prices is now being done, we are pumping more Domestic oil than we have EVER done

Maybe the decision to not export LNG was a green decision as it was being reported, even though NG pollutes less than most, but by not exporting that means Domestic supply increases, which drives domestic prices down.

Energy of course is a HUGE influence on the economy, cheap Energy = strong economy.

However where I live the price of Auto gas has increased a little, not continued to drop like I expected. Winter blend is cheaper than Summer blend too, and of course we are burning Winter blend now.

I paid $2.87 I think last week, now it’s almost $3. Local Sam’s club, cheapest around for me.

I was going to post that but you beat me to it. Even though we are pumping historic amounts of domestic oil, my guess is SWA and specifically the Gulf of Aden and the Houthis are having a not insignificant effect.
