Neshi Posted January 9, 2024 Report Posted January 9, 2024 I've seen on the many GI275 photos and videos online that you can display TAS, winds or temp but never all at the same time. Is this a possibility like on the g5 some on the top unit some on the bottom. 1 Quote
Neshi Posted January 10, 2024 Author Report Posted January 10, 2024 got my answer from Garmin which sucks but still better than the current king system. Quote
flyboy0681 Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 Rather harsh words, "not a possibility". It would be possible with a software update. Quote
PeteMc Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 I'd question them on the "not a possibility." Was it a poor choice of words and then mean not possible at the moment? I doubt there's a hardware issue that they can't do it, so the rest would be code. And maybe it will never happen or be years, but if enough people request it, there is always a possibility. Quote
201Mooniac Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 I thought it would work if you disable PFD Sync between the units. I'm not sure there is much use for PFD Sync if the units are ADI and HSI anyway but maybe it is useful for reversionary mode. Quote
Utah20Gflyer Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 I ran into this issue. I’d like to display both but since I have to choose I go with True airspeed. Quote

It may be technically possible, but apparently not business/management possible. I suspect it means that the engineering development resources for the GI-275 are now "support only", i.e., bug fixes, etc. That could be for a large number of reasons, the most common being the needed engineering resources are working on other projects with higher expected ROI. Functional changes that would require any sort of recertification hurdle or other FAA/regulator scrutiny might be difficult to justify. Quote
PT20J Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 I don’t know. Garmin has turned into a software company. They have more releases than Microsoft. 2 Quote
Ibra Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 (edited) Why do you need OAT on PFD? it does not vary that much with distance and altitude and you can read it from elsewhere if you have analog transponder, analogue gauge... Unless you are looking to avoid icing with +/-1C accuracy (you still need to look at the wings in case instrument are not accurate and in Mooney true speeds TAT will be higher) Edited January 10, 2024 by Ibra Quote

As for now I get my temp from analogue temp probe and later from my edm upgrade. Winds are from the ifds calculators and TAS from my asi. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote

And with OAT, your PFD can calculate your TAS, among other things. So you only need to look at one display to get a LOT of various information. Quote
jlunseth Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 Its certainly nice to dream, but tell me, where on that small round face would you put more readouts? It is already cluttered as it is. Quote
hammdo Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 I like having it on one screen… -Don Quote

LANCECASPER Posted January 10, 2024 Report Posted January 10, 2024 20 hours ago, hammdo said: I like having it on one screen… -Don The width of the G5 looks considerably bigger than the GI-275, but if the width of a square instrument and the width of a round instrument were exactly the same, there would be about 21.5% less area with which to work on the round one. (π/4) = 0.785398 ( @aviatoreb will confirm or correct this ) Actually the display part of the G5 looks more rectangular. It would be interesting to know exactly what the dimensions of the display are. The G5 and GI-275 each have their own advantages. The G3X and the TXi have their own. Some of the reasons why deciding what to put in the panel is challenging. 1 Quote

Yes, I am aware of that, and it is only big enough to accept one value. I use TAS, I suspect that is what most people put there. I also suspect that if you Garmin were to try to program in a second value right next to the first one, it would mask or interfere with the markings on the AI when the plane pitches and rolls and the AI rolls correspondingly. That’s to set altitude. If you don’t have a type of AP that can climb to an altitude and level off, then it is just a warning, but I believe it is used to set altitude for the “climb to” APs. Not sure, don’t have one, but I know that is the altitude window. I have an Icarus SAM that I can set “climb to” altitude into and it gives an oral warning when I am getting there, or once there if I deviate, so I don’t use the one in the 275, but it works similarly. When IFR, I just write my clearance on my kneeboard, with arrows Up / Down and the new altitude whenever it changes. Similar practice, but rather than move the pen for an "arrow" I just do one line. For a climb it will start up at a 45 and then continue across a little bit, then I write the number under the line in the little "box" so to speak. Kind of like the basic long division box from grade school, but more of a slant. Opposite for a descent, angle down and write the Alt. on top of the line. Simple quick action that has worked well for me. Quote
