Anybody know a good source for the part?  Thanks in advance.  1969/70 M20 E

Are you asking about the screw on knob that is shaped like a wheel, for the gear switch?

It isn’t Mooney specific and should be easy to find…

Start at aircraft spruce and look up switch accessories….

Many basic switches have this type of screw on knob… even the small levers are often unscrewable…

Best regards,

I wish it were that simple.  Spruce only has an illuminated gear handle switch assembly.  Having difficulty just finding plastic handle that is grasped and toggled for cycling the gear.  I don't need the entire switch.

In Canada… ask @M20Doc

Thanks everyone.  Hoping to notbuy whole switch as switch works fine.  Just need $180 handle that used would be fine too.  I will move on to salvage and monitor Ebay.

I’m not sure how the plastic knob attaches to the switch lever, but owner produced might not be too hard?

+1 that that cries out to be an Owner Produced Part from a 3D printer or something.   $180 will go a long ways to pay for the printer.

I found the switch sans the little plastic wheel for about $20 or so.

That little wheel may not be Mooney specific but I’ve never seen one exactly like it before, sure many aircraft have “wheels” on the landing gear switch but I think a little different than Mooney’s.

Rockwell as in the 112 has a wheel that looks very similar and so does the Beech Baron I think. If memory serves so does the C-210

Or you can always carve a wooden wheel. There’s nothing magically flyable about a semi-generic chunk of off-white plastic.

If you want white, just use maple.  ;)

Do you have the original broken part? This is a fairly easy to model part and I have a 3D printer.

If you have a micrometer and can take some good measurements I can probably have it created and printed in a day.

I need one too.  Just the plastic knob.  180 bucks from laser is quite steep.  At that price I would buy the entire switch with the knob for 50 bucks more and have that in the back pocket.  If anyone has an inexpensive plastic part that can be purchased let me know plz.  Any one know if beachcraft ones would work or even piper as I’m able to find those for like 20 bucks.

$180 plus tax and shipping for THAT 2 cent plastic knob!!!  YGTBSM!

A couple of questions cross my mind:

1) Is that knob legally required?  The gear switch handle is still right there even without the knob.

2) If not legally required, then could anyone make and SELL them as just a 'cosmetic' item without a PMA?

Come on everybody, we are talking about the finest aircraft quality plastic manufactured under the highest quality control to the finest government standards. Be glad it’s only $180!

I know, the one you had only lasted 40 years before it broke. If they only made it with modern materials, it would last forever.

Besides, how many do you think the mil spec switch company makes in a year? 20? 30? Maybe. The last company I worked for made short run mil spec stuff. We couldn’t even release a production traveler for less than $5000. Be glad someone is willing to make it at all.
