crossroads.... keep my J and finish upgrading it, or buy a long body....

My thinking is that a one step upgrade rarely makes senses

from a C to a long body would be two steps

From a J to a long body, only one step

so …. Keep the J or get a twin engine if you can

ultimatly i want a twin and a mooney, so i am keeping this and finishing it.  already pulled the trigger on finishing the panel and painting it.  its at aerocomfort now doing the full interior! its going to be awesome.  ill try and partner with someone in an aerostar, 340 or p baron down the road.  be nice to sit and see what happens with avgas and fuel prices for a bit.

C to Long Body isn’t that big of a leap…

C to TC’d LB… is more of a two step change…

If you  already have a decade of experience with the M20C… and want to take the next leap…

Go ahead and do it, while being aware of the extra responsibility that comes with the extra power….  :)

Best regard,

To get the extra 160lbs of MGW?

To get the extra of everything that came to the best and most successful Mooney model (IMHO the J) toward the end of the its production, which I don’t think should’ve ended.

What’s useful?

1010 for now.  It’s going to go up a decent amount, I have a couple things that are boat anchors coming out over the winter. Big standby vac pump by the battery, all the tubing, engine vac system, stormscope, and all the stuff for the century 2000.

As far as the elevation? Yes, but the 390 is a substantial improvement over the 360 when climbing in to the teens.  I’ve had it at 17500 before, but that’s nothing I’d do on the regular unless I had a turbo.  11500-15500 is where I’m usually at.  I’m over 160kts true at those elevations.  If an O driver could chime in on rich of peak fuel flows at those altitudes, that would help.  FF performance profile for an ovation lists just over 180kts and 14.4 gph is that accurate? I’m 162 kts or so and 9.7 GPH.   I really should just find an ovation to fly and see what I think.  Might be a very expensive flight tho.

At 9 to 10K, i can usally expect 179 knots at 13gph just slightly LOP. Go ROP and ill see around 182 to 184 14.4gph. 12GPH equates around 174 to 175. 10 GPH is 155 knots and 9gph i got exactly 150 knots. Climb performance is really nice in a super light O3. My CG is very far forward. When I add a decent amount of weight to the back that gives me a couple knots aswell. I remember a flight a couple months back at 13500, 12.5 gallons, and 181 knots. I think my eagle/ovation is a bit faster than the average ovation. Not by much but by a couple knots. I cant wait for dual EIS to be a thing and im excited to see the speed gain from that with dual electroair. The eagle with the o3 conversion also has the benifit of great useful loads. I think nearly all of them have a plus 1100 pound useful load.

That’s the thing about the 2900lbs versions, for whatever reason they’re heavier, my 78 is close to 1000 and after upcoming upgrade should be 1010+, you should be approaching 1050!

speed brakes, 390 with a top prop, lots of avionics.....

it most likly will be close that when i pull what i said i was going to pull off.  truth is, i really dont care all that much.  last two hundred hours, i havent been within 100lbs of gross.
