N9405V Posted April 2, 2020 Report Posted April 2, 2020 Is there another solution for a WAAS source for the G1000's other than installing the GIA63W? Quote
Hank Posted April 2, 2020 Report Posted April 2, 2020 I thought Garmin came out with an upgrade package a few years back, of limited quantity, and at great cost [~25-20 AMU?]. As a steam gauge guy, I didn't pay it a lot of attention, but I also thought it was no longer available. Quote
Niko182 Posted April 2, 2020 Report Posted April 2, 2020 I believe someone said the GIA64W could be used. I might be completely off as I read this a couple years back. Nik Quote

Unfortunately, there is no way to bring in a GTNxxx, Avidyne, or other navigator/WAAS source to make it happen. Upgrading the GIA63 to the GIA63W is the only solution. The upgrade is, however, now set up to work with G1000 airplanes with the STEC-55X autopilot as well as the GFC-700. Although it doesn't work as nicely, it does work, and gives STEC G1000 airplanes the ability to fly WAAS approaches. Additionally, the GIA-64(W) aligns only to the G1000 NXi. Steve 3 Quote

GeeBee Posted April 3, 2020 Report Posted April 3, 2020 Get'em while they're hot! Because when they are gone, they are gone. Quote
gsxrpilot Posted April 3, 2020 Report Posted April 3, 2020 A phone call to Maxwell would be in order. If the upgrade is available, he'll know about it. It's not really a matter of cost, but if it's available at all for any price. If it's not, well I feel sorry for the remaining non-WAAS G1000 Mooneys. Quote
mike_elliott Posted April 3, 2020 Report Posted April 3, 2020 Dont quote me, but it seems like he had the wherewithal to get the job done the last time I was there a month ago before the double bad A+ econo/flight wreckin NASCAR stopping pandemic hit. Give Paul Maxwell a call, he will know what you need, what he has, and whether you should rob a branch or if the main office is in order. Tell him you know me, that will waste some of his time 1 Quote
