can someone please post all the Florida places.

My favorite is The Hangar at St Pete (KSPG). The airport is literally on Tampa Bay and next to a marina and the restaurant is on the second floor, overlooking the field (see picture). Another excellent restaurant is CJ Cannon at Vero Beach as well as Sharky's at Venice.

Wouldn't it be nice if a list could be maintained for good $100 hamburger places that would be updated in a meaningful manner. The sad truth is that aviation eating places often have a very short lifespan. But some of them last a long time, so a list that automatically dropped them off after a specific period of time would not work either.

One other problem I have run across is that the days/hours of operation are hard to keep up with. Going to x airport restaurant on Sunday and finding it is only open weekdays is a pain.

Around here, I've only found KEUF, Eufala, AL to have an Airport Diner. Open 7 days, breakfast on weekdays only . . .  :(

I used to have choices:

  • KPMH, Portsmouth OH--great food, good breakfasts!
  • KSJS, Paintsville KY--Cloud 9 Diner, popular with local residents, too
  • KLUK, Cincinnati--in the old terminal, always popular
  • KPKB, Parkersburg, WV, inside the terminal building. They're used to pilots with kneeboards

Another one to add for Texas

50R - Lockhart Municipal - Lockhart, TX - There are three competing BBQ places in town. And it's worth stoping in to see each of them. Just walking in the door is an experience at each. Black's, Smitty's, and Kreuz's. At the airport, there is a Suburban (crew car) called the BBQ Patrol vehicle. Fly in, land, and within an hour you'll have sampled some of the best BBQ Texas has to offer.

Personally I think Black's is the best food, but walking through Smitty's is an experience that shouldn't be missed.

KEEN - The Flight Deck - Keen NH - Diner food.  Good breakfast and lunch.

KHFD - The Flying Monkey - Hartford, CT - Lunch and dinner.  Good burgers, great bar (for passengers. Sometimes flying is a drag on my lifestyle)

KBAF - Papp's bar and grill - Westfield, MA - Lunch and dinner.  Good food but spotty service.  Upstairs outside deck is nice during both weeks of summer.

N07 - Sunset bar and grill - Lincoln Park, NJ - Lunch and dinner.  Great food burgers etc.

KRUT - The Hanger Cafe - Rutland, VT - Better for breakfast but a passible burger.  Upstairs in the terminal

Campbell Field is a licensed, uncharted grass strip that's been in use since the 60's.  Well maintained 1,700ish ft strip with obstacles both ends, and Campbell Field Restaurant is through the pasture gate and across the road.  Great food and prices; we usually have 3 to 10 planes meet for breakfast on fair weather Sundays.  It's about 21 miles NNW of the Birmingham, AL airport (KBHM).  Coordinates are 33.844, -86.898.  Don't just practice short fields, use it!

KAJO Corona Municipal Corona CA Corona Airport Cafe
KCMA Camarillo Camarillo CA Waypoint Cafe
F70 French Valley Murrietta CA French Valley Cafe
KRIR Flabob Riverside CA Falbob Cafe
L52 Oceano County Oceano CA Rock and Road Diner

Filled in the blanks on the CA ones. French Valley has some of the best food I've had at a decent price. The portions are large and the prices reasonable.

The Travelaire – Grilled chicken, swiss cheese, bacon, and avacado

The food at Camarillo is very good as well, just a touch more expensive.

Norm's Hangar Coffee Shop at Brackett Airport (KPOC) in La Verne CA is pretty good too.

I can second KEEN and KRUT (and 6B6).  Just went to KRUT 2 weeks ago for breakfast.

I can add:

1B2 (Katama on Martha's Vinyard) - Right Fork Diner. Grass strip on the island.  Great food and it's only $1.50 to take the shuttle bus into Edgartown

PYM (Plymouth, MA) - Plane Janes place.  Deck seating overlooking airport.

IJD (windham) - Aero Diner.  Short walk from the field (ask the FBO for the shortcut).

Tony, any chance we can meet up somewhere so I can check out your plane?

-Steve

Nice super D picture!! I flew a friends ‘96 model for a few hundred hours back in college. We flew it hard, It taught me a lot, and it didn’t seem to care. Identical paint as in your picture. That Bahamas blue! Lol
